What do you recommend for roadside assistance?

What do you recommend for roadside assistance?

My warranty is expired and AAA is too expensive - I don't need any of their services, just the roadside assistance.

Are there other good choices out there that people have used for less that $45 per car per year?

I paid $70 for two cars to be covered under AAA. After the first year, the allowance for towing distance increases dramatically.

I haven't used them for the CL-S, but I did use them a number of times for my g/f's VW. It certainly would have cost more than the membership had I not had AAA.

Actually.....

.....here in Los Californios, it's CA State Auto Ass'n (CSAA). I've been a member since I traded my ship (Navy) for a CorVette (not Navy). $49 annually/2 cars gets all the towing you need (up to 5 miles) plus the mag, maps, charts, guides, vacation planning, ad infinitum, ad nauseum. The DMV feature alone is worth the money. Have you been to a California DMV lately? You won't see Joe Montana advertising here.

$45 per car per year for RSA?

Pretty cheap insurance if you ask me.

I've been a AAA member for about 30 years now. I've always had great service. Also good for travel assistance (maps, hotel guides), DMV/DOT assistance, auto insurance (never used this though)...

I just pay for the onStar service. That includes roadside assistance but, really, you don't pay for onStar for the roadside assistance... You pay for all the other shit you get.
And that's quite a bit more expensive than $45/yr

A lot of cell phone companies offer it for a few dollars a month. I don't think I'd trust them though. AAA will also bail you out of jail, so it might be worth it if you randomly find yourself behind bars.

I'm not thinking that I am going to be arrested. And I have an '01 so Onstar is not available on my model, and you guys have too much cash to think $90 annually is not a lot of cash for something that I have never used in the 8 years that I have had AAA for only my wife's car...

oh well, I guess I'll have to shell it out.
