What do you guys think of the 02 Maxima??

I just took a look at the new 2002 Nissan Maxima on their official site and IMO I still think they need to do something about the rear end. The engine is over 250+ hp and the SE model will come with 17 inch tires and HID lights. I think Nissan wants to make sure that the Maxima will be able to compete against our CL Type S and the TL Type S. I don't know, what do you guys think about how our car will stack up?

I went to the TL forum and a few of the guys there said that the 02 Maxima manual will kill both the CL and TL Type S. If that's true the manual for the Type S better be coming out soon! Also, the price for the SE is right around 30k. Nissan has a new target and I think it's got Acura in it's sights.

The Maxima will put a TL-S and CL-S to shame performance wise. Even if we did have a stick we would get slaughtered by the new Max's. They only weigh 3200 pounds.

Doesn't matter until they test the manual.

That really blows! I have a friend who is a huge Maxima fan and I know that he's rejoicing right now.. I hope Acura has plans to put 300hp in the CL real soon!

300 lbs lighter will make a huge difference
at "least" 3 tenths off your E.T. probably closer to a 1/2 second!!!

That is CORRECT. I added ~300lbs system in the trunk and my quarter time extended 1/2 sec.

Just my own opinion, but I would say forget about the Maxima (unless you are a TL owner and need four doors), and take a look at the new Z coming out. If the CL-S does not increase power or offer a six speed, that is the Nissan that I would consider! :p

I think it looks good (rides high stock like our car though), and has nice power now.
If the '02 Max had been available this spring, I would have gotten it over my CL-S.

The Max was my second choice after the CL-S as it was, but with the extra power of the '02, I would have gotten one if it was available at the time.

i like the idea of the maxima being in the 250+ club, i have always loved them, actually have owned 2 myslef and my parents know have added a 3rd to the family, a 2001. i drove it too, and its sweet and smooth, but not as balls to the walls as my cl-s though. if it had the stick, or even manumatic, it may have been more fun, but the auto stick is my favorite part of my cl-s.

I saw an 02 Maxima SE yesterday in Mint Green with HID's. It looked awesome. IMO I think the 01 rear looks better than the 02. But I still love the styling of the car. However, the 02 interior has a lot to be desired. I guess they had to cut cost somewhere.

I didn't buy the TLS for 0 - 60 bragging rights.

The I35 would be a better comparison to the TLS.

I looked at all three cars and found the TLS to be best suited to what I wanted.

All three are great choices depending on your needs.

If you want to be a drag racer then go out and buy a used Corvette ZR1
