What do you all think of HID fog lights?

I was thinking of upgrading our useless fog lights with an HID fog light kit. Let me know of what you think about this kit. If anyone has done anything with their fog lights let us know I'm looking for something thats useful.

Would look cool, but probably melt the housings. Those roadlamps don't like heat very well and will melt with even more powerful bulbs.

and to post pics, you need to have the pic hosted, then put the image location in [IMG] [/IMG] tags (or you can click the picture icon and it will do the tags for you.

Your car has actual fog lamps to begin with though. Plus your housings aren't plastic in the front, but glass.

I put Hella xenon micro de foglights on but mounted them medial to the road lamps. They are wired to the parking lights and use the oem foglight switch. They look cool when they are on without the headlights. Also, they are almost bright enough to drive with.

Help Me With My Fogs!

I have an 03 cl type s with the factory "road lamps." They automatically come on when the headlights are on and there is no switch to turn them off. What size and what kit is recommended for an HID coversion for this? I currently have 10000k in my headlight and would like to match them up, but the size of the road lamp buld has me way off on what to get.

im sorry. i meant 2002. lol . I just had ordered the 10k from a guy i know. He is letting me try them out, and if they are too dim, he will switch for another K. He tells me, everyone like them, so maybe they will work ok, but I want matching HID's in the road lamps. Any ideas??????????

Why ruin a perfectly good housing? Put in the PIAA bulbs (19224 I think is the part #) like most of us do. They are brighter than stock, the color matches the headlights (almost perfectly IMO), and they typicaly don't melt the housings. Why do you need to be any brighter if the color matches?

If you on 10K the best thing you can do is spray paint your fogs purple... no match for that on 01-02 road lamps

Just to let you know, HID's do not get hot. They gas ignited in the bulbs. Regular bulbs use filaments they heat up. When you turn off HID's they go out right away, with regular bulbs they start to fade off.

Thats why there are ignitors and ballasts in HIDS.
So they will not melt fog light housing.

"k" is what brightness/color the bulb is rated at. The higher the number the more blue the light output is. correct me if im wrong stock lights (HID) are 5000k or 6000k. 10,ooo k is ridiculous.

Works for me. If your going to spend three bills for driving lights, then you got to have protection from the heat.

How did you install them? Did you modify the xisting fog light housings or remove them totally? How much power draw do these new HID fogs need?

i have a tl-s not a cl-s so we have actual fog lights

install was plug and play. no modifying of any sort was needed. i believe all HID's are 35 watts.

Where did you find the replacement bulbs alone? How much did it cost you? Is it true that there is no extra heat generated?

i got the bulbs alone off ebay. they cost me $190 shipped for all 4, we'll see how they hold up. well, im not sure how many watts the stock bulbs (for the tl-s foglights) are but im pretty sure these create less heat. i THINK the stock bulbs were 55 watts.
