What do u think of the Civic Hybrid?
My older brother is thinking about this as an inexpensive commuter car since it gets 50mpg and you get a $2k government tax rebate on it. Anything else he should be considering? Keep in mind, this will not be his main car, just a car to drive 48 miles to work everyday...
Thoughts? Comments?

The gagues are awesome, it becomes a game to be efficient. The CVT is wierd to see in action....the rpm's don't change but the speed does. It's also a trip when the car shuts itself down at a stop light.

Underpowered and Small. Unless these cars get cheaper and/or gas gets very expensive I wouldn't consider thie Civic Hybrid as a daily commuter.

Test drove one with 3 other people in the car. Does not respond to weight at all. I floored it and couldnt break 35mph. Just didnt seem safe. But a great car for 1 person commuting. Id wait for the new prius. I think Toyota beat honda on the hybrid issue.

HYbrid
My girlfriends father has one and he LOVES it. It is pretty well built. He has over 70,000 miles on it and has had no problem at all. Infact the stock tires even went to 56,000 miles. It has enough power and all the typical fun car options.
I personally would get the optional wheels.....
Have your brother check the state web site that you live in. PA has an application that you can fill out and get a grant (rebate) of 1,500$ towards an alternative fuel car... So add that to the tax deduction and you have just offset the price of the "HYBRID" option. Why wouldnt you get it.!!!
It's transmission has NO GEARS!. It has a progressive tranny like a snowmobile has. It revs to about 2000 RPM and then just keeps speeding up. Oh yeah, and when you stop at a light, the car shuts off.. Crazy.
It would be my firsr choice if I had to drive about an hour. He has experienced 56 MPG with certain brands of fuel.

bah.... its gonna be a beater/commuter car. he'd be the only person driving it, it def wont be the family hauler, the navigator is for that he's getting it for the sheer factor of gas mileage and price. he's picking it up right now actually. that prius is butt ugly btw....

I kinda like the refresh on the front of the civics, looks a little more aggressive.
