What is with C&D's 1/4 and 0-60 times for the Comptech CL??

I finally got the new issue of Car and Driver and I cannot believe that with the Comptech Supercharger, Headers, Exhaust and the Icebox that the CL's run to 60 is a meager 5.7 and 1/4 mile in only 14.2! Come on, for 2/10ths of a second quicker, there's no way in hell I'd spend $4495 for a S/C, $1295 for headers, and $700 for the Exhaust system for those numbers. All those extras gave the CL 369 hp! That's 109 more than stock, and a 5.7 0-60 time is all they could muster?? Something's not right. There are plenty of guys on this forum that are N/A running quicker times and 1/4 miles than that. For $500 I could slap on a ZEX that's just as safe (sold it) and get into the 13's easily and have my 0-60 times down in the low 5's. I hope I'm not the only one that thinks this S/C is overrated.

Sorry about the re-post.

If anything that article and several others have me thinking twice of the S/C. I think I will go N/A and prob. get better #s. If I were Comptech I would try to sew those idiots for not knowing how to drive and posting those unimpressive #s..:thumbsdn: What the fawk is Comptech thinking for crying out loud put some lightweight 18" 235/40 tires and tell car and driver your sending your own driver that is capable of launching the car correctly.

Exactly lou, I get some sticky tires and lightweight wheels and that alone could get me those same #'s!!!

with my current setup Ive noticed a significant improvement in the 0-60 range from stock. I just don't how to test it but its a lot quicker than the 5.9 they claim stock for the cl-S 6 speed. a 5.7 for S/C is

Read the freaking article. It says FWD limits it. But it gains speed and is much quicker at speed than the stock CL-6

Even the Comptech NSX is slow compared to tuner cars.

Honda/Acura are not about big HP and the fastest cars. Period.

that's funny since darrinb has run 14.2 in his automatic, and i've run a 14.1 in mine. both of which are FWD.

how do you explain that one?

What was the trapspeed on that 14.2 run with the S/C? If its close to 104mph then it is worth it. I dont really care about the ET... The trapspeed is more important when racing on the streets or going from a roll or even a road course.

I thought allmotor_2000 posted a 13.9xx stock (16" TL front wheels) on his six speed.

14s are cool but not that fast (in track speak). Hell my 3800lbs sedan does that.

13s are pretty damn quick. Anything below that has some serious power.

he had headers too.

i'm sure the s/c would have slowed him down by at least 3/10 or so.

we were comparing the numbers in car & driver w/ what other non s/c'd cl-s have been running.

i know you would like to believe that the 14.2 @ 104 is a true representation of what the s/c'd 6mt can do. if you believe that you are truly a moron.

can you try to stay on topic now? thanks.

My car is quicker, especially from 60-115 in 3rd. I don't need Car and Driver to help me, i can check for myself FWD or not, our cars can handle it without torque steer !!

104mph with a 2.1 60ft should net mid 13's in the 1/4mile. With sticky tires and a 2.0 it will run low 13's.

I had headers and a drop-in K&N at the time. I think trapping 104 is possible NA... we'll have to wait and see about that.

Let's not go too much further with this thread... it has already been butchered earlier!

It would be cool if we could get you up to the West Coast Meet in September and see the car and you could do some runs with us on Friday night. Any chance you can make it ?

who cares about the et, obviously the driver wasnt the best at drag racing and some people on here could do better. the trap should show what the car is capable of. with those 19"s that car is capable of mid 13's. slap on some 16's with nitto 555s and you got yourself a low 13s car. (with a good driver, obviously)

p.s. a CLS with all the bolt-ons available is not going to hang with a s/c cls. which would be faster i/h/e/p or i/h/e/sc.

Along that vein, what do you think 112mph is capable of? :-)

It's so freaking hilarious... 104mph and you guys firmly believe this car SHOULD be a 13.5s car and therefore IS a 13.5s car. I seem to recollect about 3 months back having to defend myself even though I was running 110+mph from all the disbelievers out there.

Tool462 is a good friend of mine. He has a stage 3 pully on his Comptech S/C for his 2001 V6 Accord and is now pulling 260hp and 236lbs. of torque. He is boosting 8-9 lbs. of boost, where as my 01' CLS auto has the icebox, pullies and headers and I'm at 230hp and 190lbs. of torque.
John types comes to the track with us often and Tool is running 14.4's and I am running 14.5's, all in summer temps so far.
The two cars shouldn't be this close.
My point is, way too much wheelspin off the start for Tool and I've raced his car as well and starts are a bitch!
I don't have the starting problems he does and my 60' times are just as good if not better at 2.2's.
Just imagine launching the CL, which is close to 300hp at the wheel with the S/C, all wheelspin my friends.
If that car had all wheel drive, lookout!
From a rolling start, a S/C CL will keep up with anything on the street for the most part.
The track times posted are deceiving and yeah, with drag slicks and alot of practice, I'm sure 13's are easily attainable.

first of all the supercharger is incredible for all you damm non believers.our blown cars can run mid to low 13s with traction.car and driver didnt know how to launch the car thats why they got what they got.ive raced from 2nd gear on and let me tell you something i beat a new m3 no bullshit.i cant stand all this negative bullshit that you guys post about the blower.if you dont know what your talkin about keep your fuckin mouth shut.this is the first time im really pissed off.i keep reading all these threads about the supercharger is a waste of money etc.it happens to be the best investment yet and just wait till she is intercooled and chipped when shes runnin 12s people wont talk shit anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let's see someone with a supercharged CLS hit the track or dyno to disprove C&D? I personally feel the C&D numbers do not show the full potential, but why has no one gone to the track?

yeah, the supercharger guys blew their whole wad just trying to afford the S/C, some are now probably having buyers remorse after looking at their credit card bills, and now are questioning if they may even take it off and sell it, or just dont have the money to afford a 80 dollar dyno session or a 40 dollar track day session.
