My roomate has GEICO. He'll tell you this..: Geico is cheap. If you are a safe driver and don't plan on getitng into accidents, get GEICO. On the other hand, if you are afraid of coverage issues, you are better off with one of the bigger names, State Farm, 21stCentury etc.. He had his radio stolen and GEICO offered to replace it with SOME POS worth like less than 150 dollars and the deductable was 100.... you do the math. Geico is CHEAPO insurance IMO.

I like Allstate. They've always been cool with my wrecks and speeding tickets. Now that I've got the Type S, I'm only paying like $800/year.

That would be a month. I'm getting robbed huh?! Hey.....I'm sure once I turn 25 it'll plummet. Still, if there's a cheaper somethingorother out there....let me know. I've heard that USAA is pretty cheap, but I'm not from a military family or anything, so I don't think they apply to me. How 'bout StateFarm or something?!

6000 a year......damn....you're out of your mind. You must make quite a bit more than me, thus justifying the expense. Me being 24 1200 every 6/mo. is a lot of money for someone making 56K a year. So, my bitching is justified...yours on the other hand....is just silly, unless of course you enjoy paying that much. Plus you probably have a couple kiddies under your wing...jacking up the price.

Progressive sucks. No accidents and one ticket and I was paying $145 a month for a 1998 3.0 CL. Now that I turned 25, it dropped to $87 a month.

It depends on where you are. Insurance rates are so different from state to state and region to region that there is no comparison. Only within a state can you compare. For instance, in NJ, we have the highest rates in the US (so they say. Nice to be number 1 in something.) GEICO does not insure here as well as a whole bunch of other companies. State Farm has applied to withdraw and is followed by AIG. I was insured by Allstate and then I switched to State Farm because there were half of Allstate. The I switched to AIG because they were half of State Farm. Then I had a hit and run. Someone hit me and ran. My insurance is now way up there and there's not much I can do because of the withdrawal of State Farm and AIG.

I am 25 with 1 wreck that was my fault..i totaled a car...and a wreck that was not my fault. The tickets are over 3 yrs so they dont count and since i have been with progressive for so long they dont count the totaled car. So they are basicly not charging me any points and i pay 1092.00 every 6 months. I look at other agencys but with all the crap that progressive is not charging me with they would be much more. So it will stay progressive till i clear some of the wrecks up.

goto....sounds like you got screwed something fierce. I guess that's the price you pay for bouncing around. In my case, I think I'd just think I'd be better off if I stayed with Progressive for a few months and see what my rates will be like after my 25th. Plus I just switched off my folks, which was Pemco, so i don't want to jump off the Progressive ship just yet. Plus, I'd like to wait at least six months if I do change, then I won't have any issues with hooking up with another compnay.

Not really, just a series of circumstances. If I had stayed with State Farm I would have the same issues with AIG. Allstate was ridculous. I changed from them within 6 months of moving here 5 years ago. Oh well... sometimes it's just your turn in the barrel!

WOW. It just sounds like Jersey's a bad place to drive. That is so weird that all those company's don't insure there. I've never even heard of AIG. Is that only back East, or am I just nieve as to the different company's (probably the latter)?! :-)
I've heard good thing's about State Farm. How long will you have to wait to get hooked back up with one of them again?!

Of course NJ sucks...their drivers are aweful (here come the flames) <g>. You guys really need to learn how to use your indicators!

Someone posted that the guy who said he is paying $6000 for insurance is just crazy. Obviously they didn't read the guys post properly. He has THREE cars insured, ALL for $6000/yr. That's pretty good - especially for NY.

I think I'm getting screwed though with insurance. I have GEICO, 23 years old, one ticket that can still be applied under the 39 month rule and I pay $1440/6 mos.

once again, everybody stop complaining. gieco wants 14,000 a year for me. yes 14 comma 000 not 1 comma 400, 14 comma. prudential about 12k. 24 years old/no accidents or tickets/single/brooklyn ny. be happy with your measly $2000 a year payments, im gonna pay that every 2 months.

For all who have no accidents or tickets within the past three years, and live in one of the southeastern states (TN, FL, GA, etc.) you may want to look into Cotton States Insurance. I recently switched from GEICO (thought I was getting a good deal at $753/6 months) to Cotton States, and I now only pay $365/6 months, same coverage and deductibles.

I also heard USAA is the best but you need to be in the military or a family member or in some other gov't services...

I had State Farm when living in Maine and paid ~$1000.00/yr - moved to NJ and they wanted $1900.00/yr. ('96 Integra) I changed to Liberty Mutual and heard some good things about them - quoted $1290.00/yr for the Integra. When I bought my CL it went down about $10.00 for the year. Try getting a quote from Liberty Mutual and see if they have any discounts for group plans, AAA or something. I got 10% off for Rutgers alumni assoc. BTW, I am 32 and have one speeding ticket and 2 pts. on my license from Maine.

Good Luck!

Nobody is talking about their coverage or other things that matter.

1.How about how long you plan to stay with an insurance company and the benefits? GEICO forgives accidents for long-termers.

2.Who is Cotton States really? They have to be part of somebody big....otherwise I can't trust them to pay up or support me when I accidently leave the [icy] road and plow into a building, the resulting fire causing $250,000 in damage.

3.Each state has different limits. Liability makes a bit of a difference, some people might chose the lower limits ($10,000?). You are opening yourself up to some major risk.

4.Other frills: towing, extended warranty. GEICO has an extended [manufacturers'] warranty for something like $48/yr. So I skip that $1000 aftermarket extended warranty. That alone keeps me locked into GEICO.

To each his own, some place are better than others (USAA). Not everybody can get USAA and not everyone can get GEICO. Who knows what's the best deal but we know $14,000 year isn't!

Finally, not trying to start a flame war, but age matters; quite a bit actually. I support the [industry] position that younger people should pay more to insure the same vehicle.

GEICO quoted me at: 990.50 every six months!
That's $1981.00 year.

100/300 Injury Liab.
50K Prop. Damage
100/300 Uninsured Motorists
$500.00 DEC. on both collision and comprehensive.

FYI -- I am 25 w/ no tickets or accidents of any kind.

What do you think? Deal? Getting f***** (and should shop around for a better deal)?

Peace from SF to the East Coast, I love NYC,

The best is the USAA, but you need to be in the service or have a history of prior military service. I pay for my CLS $725 per year and for all my cars a total of $1345 per year

For those interested in Cotton States Insurance, do the research like I did and you'll find that the company has been in business since 1941 and has a A.Ms Best's rating of B++ (which puts them in the the Secure category). In addition, I know several friends who have this insurance, and the ones that have had claims have been very satisfied with the service they received. I personally don't need/want to pay 50% more for a big name. After all big companies can go bankrupt also.

I'm sure they are a good Company, but for future reference in case you might not know, B++ is not very promising in real life terms, IMO of course.

I don't pay 50% more for a big name, just a big security blanket and a A++ rating. I need that when I'm facing down a vicious motorist (plaintiff) looking to wipe me out and ruin the rest of my life with 5-year long, complicated [perhaps] bogus medical claim / civil lawsuit naming myself and my "insurance company" as co-defendants. But that's just me and my paranoia, YMMV.

Man, I must be getting away with murder...

Through State Farm, I'm paying $556.11 every 6 months. Here's how it breaks down:

Liability
Bodily Injury 100,000/300,000
Property Damage 50,000
156.24

No-Fault 10,000
37.80

250 Deductable Comprehensive
82.04

500 Detuctable Collision
205.24

Uninsured Motor Vehicle
Bodily Injury 100,000/300,000
9.60

Underinsured Motor Vehicle
Bodily Injury 100,00/300,000
27.60

----------

Premium Amount: 518.52
Plus Local Tax: 29.81
Plus KY Surcharge: 7.78
Total: $556.11

----------

They then say at the bottom that I got the following discounts:

Multiple Line (house & car): 53.20
Antitheft: 20.72
Vehicle Safety: 9.52
Accident Free: 99.12

They never found out about any of my previous tickets, or if they did, they didn't affect my rates. I'm currently 27 years old. And, as you can see, I'm pretty open with my personal info.

You talkin' to me? We NJ drivers suck? WTF is up with you NY drivers? Is the left lane your only lane to travel in? LOL.. j/k. We don't use turn signals in NJ cuz we don't wanna give anybody warning! They might cut us off!

NJ sux for car insurance. The state is corrupt in that area. The state controls the rate by allowing the insurance companies to make a profit. Some of the profit figures are absurd and some of the companies are losing their proverbial shirts. State Farm and AIG (which is a German company I believe) lost millions (or at least they say they did). A lot of insurance companies have either denied coming to NJ or have pulled out because of the state regulation. NJ believes that there is no other place in the world other than NJ. The cost of living is extremely high here. Income tax is low but property taxes ar very high. Fuel tax is very low. So we have the highest insurance rates in the US and the lowest gas prices in the US (or at least we used to) and they pump it for you. Wait! What was this topic about?
