costs $30 for 6 runs
tires get abused pretty good if yer not careful...pump them up to at least 40psi all around...i've pumped to around 44, and the sidewalls have stayed pretty much intact

what scooter said...
it's also fun fun fun...
Basically pushes your cars limits in the low speed handling arena. I have never left second gear during a race, but I've come close to red line a couple of times.
The cones are situated so that you are tossing your car left-right-left-sharp-right...etc at all times. The last one I went to even had a slalom. There will also be lot's of times you get to punch the accelerator hard then brake hard, but like I said you'll never leave second gear.
I enjoy it because it's a rush but the danger is minimal because of the relative low speeds and the wide stretch of asphalt you have to work with. The most damage you can do to your car is if you hit a cone and it leaves a slight scratch on your car (or if you hit a course worker...then you'll have more problems to deal w/).
The tires get pretty chewed up, and like what Scooter said, if you get the PSI up high (42 up front and 36 rear) you'll minimize the tire role.
the price is dependent on the club near you. Since it's so popular here we usually can get four runs in throughout a day. The cost is $20 for non-members and pretty much all are welcome.
Must warn you though...you'll spend the entire day at one of these events. When you're not running you'll be working the course, picking up cones etc. It's a semi-volunteering sport.
do a search on http://www.google.com on your city name and "scca" or "solo II" or "autocross"
Hope this helps....

also wanted to add...our cars are not "ideal" for this type of driving. If you come in close to last, don't worry about it. A lot of the guys I ran against had Civics, Integras, Golfs, etc, but they are so light and their turning radius is so good they were out performing me.
