What is $16526?
Answer is........
the Edmunds private sale value of my (our) car(s)!!!!!!!
Holy shit!!!!!
Three years old and it's worth less than most 1999-2000 Preludes I see advertised!!!
16500$! I couldn't even get into a new Accord LX for that price!
Ah, cars--what a waste of money!
But they sure are fun.
At this point, I think I'll just see how far I can drive my 01--mobile 1 synthetic every 4000-5000 miles since the first change. Engine should last--I wonder about the transmission (haha)!

I should have bought the yellow 01 Type-R on the showroom floor. It was 3000 less than my car. I see asking prices of 18-21k with comparable miles. I don't know if they actually sell for that much. Still, a $6000 difference.
Oh well, I like my CL. I probably would have done something stupid and wrecked the R anyway.

I've got the same feeling. It may be worth more to keep it and drive it than to try and sell the damn thing.
All I know is, I will never buy another new car from now on. After the problems I've encountered, and an ABOVE average depreciation value, it's just not worth it to me.
Strictly certified pre-owned for me from here on out!

Oh well, yeah that blows - but, it is a car and depreciation will level off after 5 or 6 years anyway - I just plan on enjoying it until then, then I'll trade it in and use the 7-8 grand I get as a downpayment on my next vehicle.

That's all I ever did.
Buy a car a year old and save 5 to 10 grand.

I have bitched about that too, but it could be worse. I was speaking with a sales guy at a local Porsche dealership and he said that the day before a gentleman traded a '02 Range Rover (last year before the huge redesign and new BMW engine) and got $30,000 for his trade in - he had bought the car for $76,000 20,000 miles ago!
I have found out the hard way that used is the only way to go! You can pick up 2 year old Benz's, P-cars, BMWs etc. for half of what the cost new and in never be in a position of negitive equity!

Burn some dust here
I am sorry...but used cars suck. Even if they are certified pre-owned, you still dont know how the original owners drove them. Example: I bought a CPO Bmw 328is 2 years ago before the CLS. Drove it for 6000 miles and got rid of it. Nothing but problems and I just dont put up with that crap very well. I guess I have had shitty luck but I will never have a used car again. If youre going to spend the money you might as well spend a little more, especially if the car is a sports car where it could have been raced every night just kept up well and you wouldnt know. No thanks, Ill take new.
As far as $$$ mine has fallen to 22,675 trade in and Retail is 26,850 according to KBB. Not too bad.

I don't think it's a matter of used or new that sucks, it's a matter of the car. If the car sucked when new, of course it'll suck in the used/CPO market. If a car is excellent to the original owner, it'll be a great car in the used/CPO market as well.

from edmunds.com:
my 2001 comes out at $18,580 private party.
a 2000 prelude sh with 36000 miles comes out at $16,515 private party.
sounds like you've got a lot of miles on your car and the ads you're looking at are asking an awful lot for a prelude...

hate to break it to you, but those numbers are complete and total BS.
my 2002 had 12,000 miles on it when i sold it, it was mint, i went to 5 dealers, the most anyone would offer was 19.5k
edmunds numbers are out of the park, they arent even playing in the same leauge as the REAL WORLD of car values.

I thought the CLS was surposed to depreicate about 52% over 5 years, but it looks like it's hitting the 50% mark a little early (probably due to 1)auto tranny issues, 2) being discontinued, 3) being a coupe).
Oh well... No big deal...

They still fetch a nice sum, my buddy traded his Black Type R like 8 months ago for an 02 S2k (the Type R was leased I might add) and the dealer gave him $20k for it.
He walked out with like $1800 in positive equity, which is extremely rare for a lease.

At the time, I thought the upcoming RSX-S would hurt the Type-R's value. :o
If I owned a Type-R, I'd probably be looking for a 2nd vehicle, not selling/trading it. Poorman's Viper.
Live and learn.
