We're in BIG trouble
after reading what EXACTLY Nissan has in store for us over the next year or 2, we're in deep sh!t...the new 350Z has 300 HP (didn't know), the Altima has 240 (we know), the Maxima/I35 has 260 (we know), and the G35 has 280 (didn't know)...it's like muscle car maham within 5 years.

Speaking of Hondas ... I was reading in one of the car rags about the Altima. In the article it said that Honda all but guaranteed that the next Accord would have over 240hp. If that's the case, then I gotta think that the TL and CL are due for some major hp increases.

For Honda/Acura, a mid-gen tweak to an existing engine will usually net something like 10-20 horsepower. But keeping in mind the output of the maxed-out, cost-be-damned version (NSX) and the stroked version (MDX) of your engine, I seriously doubt there will even be that mid-gen tweak. I believe that a major horsepower increase necessitates a near clean-sheet redesign of the engine. So that's the next gen, assuming they keep the relatively low-volume CL.
What Acura really needs to get going is a new flagship (Legend) to put themselves back on the prestige map in relation to Audi, BMW, Infiniti, Lexus and Mercedes-Benz. That will benefit the whole model line.

As far as the CL/TL go, think about this:
We can put Comptech headers on the CL-S/TL-S and get around 30hp out of it. Who's to say Acura can't do the same? I bet they can make/get headers far cheaper than we can, so I doubt it would be more than a $500 bump.
290hp sounds much better when the Accord is going to be around 245-250hp. Acura, IMO, cannot have an Accord thrashing it's cars in performance. A 250hp Accord coupe could thrash a premium CL, and could beat a CL-S if the weight difference stays the same as it is now.
The same for the Accord Sedan vs. TL.
As far as the low volume CL goes, I really hope they keep it. It's a great car, and does far more for Acura than an Accord Coupe would do for Honda (excluding the whole Prelude fiasco).

If that is the case, how did Comptech manage to get a CARB sticker/exemption?
They do run some pretty nasty tests here in California. So nasty, in fact, that the if it is good enough for CARB, so goes the US (at least in most part)
Just 'cause volumetric efficiency is improved, doesn't mean that the emissions will go bad. Sometimes modifications will actualy improve the emissions of a vehicle -- I know, I've done it...

i can't believe this...it's like the 60's and 70's all over again...the rebirth of the muscle cars...but this time, it's much different...not so much pure American push-rods and Chevy small blocks, but that's ok i guess...my father and i talk about the times he used to go to the muscle car meets at Cross Bay Blvd. in Queens...if u think about it, this high HP push by most car companies has come out of nowhere...Nissan and Infiniti just made this push really within the last 3 years or so...Volvo within the past few years...VW and Audi have been slower movers, but credit to them, they've had stronger cars for a number of years already...it's very interesting...and also, i wasn't really old enough to appreciate the trend towards the SUV's a while back, so it's a very exciting time to experience this transition

UhHh...Guys?....my .02?
We're talking about HONDA here! The company that pulled an overniter with the S2000! The company that basically made VTEC what VANOS and VVT-i and other variants are today. Don't let Honda's passive facade fool you guys, we all know Honda always has something amazing up its sleeve. Whether it be from Honda or Acura, if Honda wants to "reply" to Nissan's upcoming "vehicles on steroids" we know it'll be second to none in power, speed, looks, and comfort. Honda can work magic like none other...let's just sit tite and see what happens

But it's turbo so it will mod nicely.
Keep in mind though, the swedespeed article note:
Editor's Note: The photographs in this article are NOT authentic. These are photos of the PCC concept vehicle that have been modified by Swedespeed staff to represent what a production S60 COULD look like based on information provided to Swedespeed and are not to be confused with actual photographs of the upcoming S60R.
The biggest thing I dislike on the volvo exteriors are the black trim bands, which they photoshopped to body-color in that article. It the real one comes like that it will look so much sportier. And if not you can always get them painted.
