weird noise, help to identify (01 CLS 5AT)
I noticed recently after the car was sitting for a little while... I get back in, start, put in D5 and right when I press the gas pedal and it starts to go I hear this little metallic "tsik" or "click" sound. It's not really like a clunk or anything like that. Sounds like when a very hot engine starts to cool down and makes all those little similar noises (CL doesn't tend to do it though). But the car is cold though and it does it both in drive and reverse and only once. After that it's fine from stops and red lights. I am not sure what a new tranny feels like therefore can't tell if there is any significant gear hunting (if someone could explain in detail how it does it, it would be appreciated). Feels and drives fine, according to previous owner he never replaced tranny. 81k miles on it now. Is it one of the signs of a failing tranny?
Did anybody encounter the same noise on a 01 CLS 5AT?

Wierd, I just noticed my car making a little tick sound when going from reverse to D5 and it only happens the first time I do it and only when the cars cold. I just got my new tranny less than 10K miles ago. I just ignored it because other than that I can't tell anything is wrong.
Maybe the same issue, but I have no idea what it is.

Now I am noticing that the "tick" is happening more often. First when starting to move and then I noticed when I was in traffic, I step on it a little harder that usual and it ticks once but not every time though. I am pretty sure it's the tranny making the noise. And I don't think it matters if it's hot or cold.

I don't know if this is the answer to you all. I had that mechanical tick noise, too and when I brought my 01 CL in for a service, they said it was a broken tranny mount and they replaced it. Mine was out of warranty so I called The Honda Services of Canada and they kindly paid for the part, dealership paid for a half of the labour and the only thing I had to pay out of my pocket was another half of the labour.
Before the replacement took place, I'd have that noise everytime I accelerate from a stop or from a low speed. Hope this helps.

When you say out of warranty... is that after 100k miles? (or 160,000kms in Canada)
I'm wondering if the tranny has the extended warranty, would that include the tranny mount as well as internals? And how did you present the case to Honda Services of Canada? How much labour is the job? Did they give you a loaner while fixing?
