I had a ram air intake on my Integra before that was aluminum and never had any weird sounds like you are describing...
Then again, it was only a 4 cyl B series engine which requires less air intake than our 6 cyl engines...
I guess that could be the reason, but I am getting an AEM CAI for pretty cheap and if that doesn’t' happen I will just get the AEM ram air and find out if it was just the intake you have or the motor that causes it. I'm glad I saw this post, I almost bought a Weapon R recently and wasn't sure if I wanted that...
Thanks and good luck on finding something that works for you.

i was hearing some bad noises when i had my little mishap and had to put my filter on my AEM intake where the bypass valve was. It definitely sounded like a vacuum and was way too loud and annoying. At least you don't have the sound problems anymore.

Personally, i don't think it looks too bad under the hood.

With that being said, then the noise is definately because of the amount of air being sucked in. So, IMO it must be because of the free flowing design of the Weapon R. If the noise went away after putting your filter where the bypass was, then that was because of the open area that the bypass causes...
Does anyone else with a bypass on their CAI have this problem? I don't want to bother buying one for the CAI I'm getting if it will just be a waste of money (due to me leaving it off), yet I want the security of having a bypass...

Ok... It's been a while since I was on this thread...
I put my AEM CAI in and it makes plenty of noise...
One noise is the sucking/whining sound that you get just by giving it a little gas...
Anothere noise is the deep/growling sound you get at WOT, which I love!
I put my intake in over at my storage bay and when I was done, I just slammed the gas and the echo and growling was instantaneously addictive.
I guess it all depends on your personal opinion about the sounds.
I am assuming the 'vacuum' sound you were speaking of, is the same sound I hear when I slowly accelerate (almost sounds like a very quiet turbo spooling when you are in first gear). Another sound is when you shut the engine off and it sounds like the engine is taking it's last breath. I like that though... It makes people look over in wonder of what it is...
Once again, the sound depends on what you are tolerable to.
Owell... Sorry for the pointless bump

I couldn't agree any more! The longest part of the whole procedure was trying to get that long bolt out!
Beneficial to me was the fact that I was changing my driver side rotor at the same time so I had the car jacked up... Not that it helped my hands magically fit in!!!
I haven't read the whole thread in a long time, but I think someone said they had a problem routing the cooler line and the bracket didn't line up. I must say that with the AEM there was no problems at all.

Edit: My car feels as if it has a LITTLE more low end torque but untill 4800 rpms (vtec) the mid - higher end feels lame... Anyone else have an opinion about this???

Ahh, my post risen from the dead... nnnnn-ice! Anyway, don't get me wrong, I loved the sound of the intake w/cold air box when I was on the gas, had a nice deep growl and felt the HP increase, but it was at idol that the sound drove me crazy. You know those sounds that at are a certain pitch that drive you crazy, like fingernails on a chalkboard or metal on metal grinding? That was what I was experiencing at idol. I ended up getting rid of the air box (was crappy anyway and did nothing) and the aluminum tubing and just bought a 3" 90° bend rubber tube from Home Depot, hooked that up to the stock plastic flex pipe and put the Weapon R cone foam filter on the end and secured it with a bracket. It hums but not nearly as loud and annoying and felt better than the K&N drop-in. (Bring on the short-ram jokes, I'm ready!) Oh, and I of course removed the resonator that I forgot to when I first installed the Weapon R setup . You're right though, it all depends on your personal opinion.

The AEM CAI makes a nice vaccuum noise during cold starts and it gradualy goes away when the engine warms up. The only time I hear the vaccuum noise is when the fans kick on during idle but other than that I barely hear it. My axle back exhaust noise deletes the vaccuum noise during cruising speeds so I don't mind either way.

Not trying to hijack this dead thread...

What kind of gas mileage do you get with your intakes?

My mileage went from 19-20 MPG to 23-24 MPG after installing it. That was also with a lot of WOT time. I am impressed with the change.

I get about 23-24 mpg with my intake setup, and that's with a lot of WOT time too. It's about the same as when I had it totally stock though. I'm wondering what the soon to be installed headers will do for me?

Ha ha, bringing my own thread back from the dead! Just an update that I finally gave up completley on the Weapon-R intake/foam cone filter and just ordered an AEM CAI off of eBay. Got an amazing deal and in red which I wanted. Can't wait to put it on and get rid of my intake issues and droaning hummming noise. Hopefully my first write up of the Weapon-R intake install prevented anyone from making the mistake I made in buying this intake. Lesson learned!

How much did you get it for? I can't remember exact cost for the intake, but according to my paypal history the total was $171 with shipping (which was high for it).

Another thing...
You said you used a 90° bent tube. I don't know about with the CL, but I do know that if you used a 90° bend in a tube with a 5L Mustang it would cost you a loss of 15 HP. The 90° causes turbulence which restricts the air flow and you should use two 45° angled elbows instead...

I got the AEM CAI off ebay for $167 shipped, new and in the box never opened. I haven't been able to find it anywhere for less than $250 shipped.

The only intakes you can get for the CL have a 90° bend on them so the air filter sits toward the front of the car since it's a transverse mounted engine. It's just the design of the engine compartment. There really wasn't a horsepower issue, just a humming noise issue. The CAI puts the filter under the front so it's not in the engine compartment to create a resonance. I should give better HP numbers due to it getting more cold air.

Thanks, Green! I've had all the other "big" names; Injen, Neuspeed, K&N, and loved them all, so I'm sure it'll be great.

I was just throwing out some info...
Also, I have the AEM CAI, that's the one I bought for $171 shipped. I know it runs through the engine bay to the inner fender, I installed it.

I bought mine through Nopi when they had a huge sale going on. I bought it for about $130 shipped.

You have a CL-P though, right? Maybe they're usually less than the CL-S's? In any case, good deal.

No worries... I was just saying I didn't put a 90° bend in the intake for fun, it was the only way it would work.

Eh, whatcha gonna do. Thankfully it was cheaper than most intakes so not a huge loss. Plus it makes a really nice planter now.

What the deuce kind of car do you have that on? Obviously it's not a 2nd gen CL. One thing I did like was the way it looked. Just couldn't take the HUUUUUMMMMMMMM.

This is more complete engine bay now

The humm is not bad in my car. The header and exhaust plus stereo drown out the intake noise
