Weak Startup
Hey guys just joined the forum, and glad i did. Already starting the work on 2002 Black CL-S. I was wondering if anyone has a weak startup or delayed start when turning on the car. Sometimes i get it and sometimes i dont, my best friend and i both bought the same models and his does it as well. Any ideas what this might be. Does the Densko sparks make any difference?
Thanks

Weird, my car just had a weak start up on my way home just now.
Usually though, I let it sit at "II" until the gas guage starts to go up and then I start it. Never had a problem when doing that, although weather changes can sometimes make for a rough start or rough initial idle.

Similar Problem (startup delay)
Startup delay,
I've owned a '98 Cl for a couple of months now, and I've had some mechanics check out the same thing. One said that it might have something to do with the vacume, the others said that that's just the way my car is. So I really don't know. I get a delay alot though when starting it, and it shakes a little when shutting off. Try and pay attention to the weather and whether you have had it started for a while or not. It may be your spark plugs or fuel injectors. I just had a kit put on to my injectors which turned off my check engine light and helped a little.
Hope that helps.
Late,

PS: Can anyone help me? Know anything about being able to shut your car off and take out the keys while the car is still in gear. I accidentally do it alot, but I'm not sure if its something to be concerned about.

Very true, but i live in ft lauderdale, fl and the weather is nice, i hope its not a weak battery or something i only have 2500 miles on it. The only thing is my friend has a silver one and it does the same exact thing. What might i be able to do ? New battery? Densko or NGK's ?

Mines done it since I got it in December. I live in S. FL so it's not the heat or anything. I hear it might be the fuel pump. Try tuning the key to on a few seconds before starting it. It has helped for me.

Isn't there a TSB out on some cars expeiencing delayed starts? I was going to be lazy, but here it is. If we are talking about the same thing. I know you said you had a 2002. I found this under 2001 and not under 2002.

That sounds like what mine does too. If the car has been sitting a while, it starts just fine. But if the car is still hot from driving very recently, when it starts it idles very low, b/w 250 rpm and 500 rpm. But that only lasts about a second or 2, then it jumps to normal idling speed, ~ 750 rpm.

hey,
i noticed the same thing with my car a few months back (after it was about 6 months old), i took it to the dealership and they said that my battery was weak and replaced it free of charge, no problem since

Yes, it is the service bulletin in regards to the fuel pressure regulator. My car also exhibits low idle after starting occasionally. Once in a blue moon it even stalls on me. I'm getting it replaced under warranty on Friday.

Alot of us with the 2000TL models had this problem a few years ago. I had it happen about 4 times the first spring of owning the car. If the car was shut off for not more than 30mins it was hard to start. When it did start it idled low & then went to normal.
I never took it back to the dealer for this problem & it only happen a few times. I learned other people had this problem also.
I just went with the advice to turn the key to the #2 position & wait a second before starting. I have not had this problem since spring of 1999.

I've experienced this too. Usually after I've driven the car a while & it's sat for a bit but is still hot when I get back in to restart.
