we need a SHIFT LIGHT. .

we need a shift light.

has anyone done this? i'm pretty sick of looking at the rpms while in SS to know exactly when to shift. .

i'd rather keep my head up and concentrate on the road. .

many of the shift lights out come with tach's. .maybe where the foglight switch was supposed to be, we can put the shift light there. .

i dunno, just a thought. .

Those things just piss me off. I would hate it if we had one in our car. They never work the way they should anyways. ;-(

Is there a "heads-up" display for the speedometer and rpm gauge??

I have seen some aftermarket ones, but do they work on our cars??

I was thinking about the rev limiter and the engine today. All of the other cars I had were manuals and I could always tell when to shift by the tone of the engine.
This engine has some much potential because it doesn't come close to winding out before we have to shift. We don't need a shift light we need a higher redline!

i agree with shifting with the tone on a manual, on an automatic like our cars, a higher redline would help, or a louder exhaust.

another problem is the .5 second delayed response while in SS. .maybe the light would assist us?

Just redline every gear then shift. It is that simple.

hey so cal type s,

i'm with you on bouncing off the limiter, i was racing a modded 99 prelude the other day and i was beatting him by 2 carlenghths then i hit the limiter in 3nd gear, the moment i hit that i could see the lude slowly creep up ,we evened out when i shifted to 4th, but i think the race was closer then it should have been.

my old maxima had a "headup display" showing speed on the far left corner. I loved it. All you have to do is just glance to the side and it would be right there.

naw.
i dont think blinking lites would help it much. i mean, i've been driving my car enough to know exactly when to shift w/o bouncing off the limiter. i don't drive my CL-S for weeks at a time. i mostly drive my Accord, but when i get into my CL-S it takes me a good 20 minutes before i'm used to the shifting. it's so different and you get there SO fast. it's hard to keep out of my car, but then i think of the 16,996 miles i have on the odo, and i dont touch it! anyway, if you REALLY need a light, they sell aftermarket ones usually at stands at 1/4mi tracks.

It sure sounds like you guys beat the SHIT out of your cars quite often.
I’m guessing that long-term reliability isn’t too much of a concern here for most folk.

We should compile a list of VIN #’s to avoid on the used car lot in the future.

Shift lights are for wussies. Learn the sound of your engine. You should be able to tell your RPM in any gear +/- 250RPM.

Pros can tell their engine RPM within +/- 100RPM.

That being said, yes, I smack my rev limiter all the time.

Thats why I bought the extension warranty for an additional 3-years. 4 + 3 = 7-year warranty for only $250.

Don't plan on having the car that long, but when i re-sell it, it will be sold w/ the manufacturer warranty.

I guess that's fine as long as you don't plan on doing any serious mods that would void the warranty. :-\
