Wanting to trade in the 6spd for auto..

I just hate the clutch... I posted a FS/Trade thread in the black market but no bites yet. I guess i've just been used to the automatic and hate the idea of driving a stick on the daily grind. Don't get me wrong I love the gearbox when im out with some friends driving around but for everyday use, it's getting old. The gearbox is just so sensitive it gets on my nerves when I can't shift smooth. On top of that, all my other friends cars I can drive perfectly with no jerkness between shifts...

Dont do it.

Our clutch is pretty soft but once you learn the engagment points you will have no prob.

You might want to put new trans fluid in for smother shifts and no more grinds

I put in GM Synchromesh to help but I never really had any problems or grinding to begin with.

I know we never ended up getting together last weekend, but I really want to see if there's something wrong with your car. Every car is different, but you should be able to get used to it within a few hours of driving.

I had one of my sales reps with me yesterday (who has a 3g TL) and she didn't even realize my car was a stick until 5 hours into the day. I'm not some phenomenal driver, so I think you may have another problem with the car.

I've put 50k miles behind the wheel of the CL-S and I still don't always shift smoothly. Especially from 1st to 2nd.

It's tricky.

A lot of import/european cars that were manual that I've owned have always been tricky to shift from 1st to 2nd.

Just have to find the sweet spot...

I've noticed that someitmes high rev shifting from 1st to 2nd sometimes shift smoother.

Do not trade your 6MT for auto! I also questioned the clutch at first but have gotten use to it and love it. Also have to take in consideration that the auto is likely to go out. If you want an auto, go with a different car IMO

That's definitely the case with this car. However, revving to 5,500 every time to get into 2nd gear will draw some attention your way.

I usually shift each gear around 3,000 rpm and don't have a problem.

eh... I would be lying if I said I didn't miss the ease of the automatic while sitting in traffic for an hour or more during my daily commute.

Hmmm... was thinking about trading my auto for a 6 speed but I'm making payments on a loan so I don't have the slightest on how that would work. Damn, wish I had the title in my hand. I'd trade you today.

See that's where you are wrong. The clutch and gearbox don't blow. In fact it is one of the best clutch/transmission combos I've ever driven. And that seems to be the general opinion on this forum.

Go drive a Subaru or a Chevy or a Dodge or a VW and then make up your mind on how bad you think the clutch and transmission in this car is.

Honda makes some of the best drivetrains out there. CL-S6, TL, S2000, RSX-S. All very highly praised clutch/transmissions.

Ok well I was wrong that the gearbox blows, the gears are in fact very mated to the engine but the clutch again is a different story. There is no reason for it to be so touchy. I've driven a couple s2000's and their clutch is NOT as sensitive as ours. I've also drove a number of RSX's at work and their clutch is smooth all the way through. We have some sort of bump and pressure change half way during the release.

It's mainly the heavy dual mass flywheel that causes the touchy engagement. A solid or lightweight flywheel makes a huge difference on driveability. I would consider a clutch swap if it bothers you enough. With the 6MT, you've got so much more reliability, LSD for handling, and less drivetrain loss.

nvm on the trade, i know you dont want my car and if you did, i wouldnt have the extra g's to make up the difference. plus, then your car would be my first manual tranny and you make it sould like it would be a bad idea

Even the porsche guys will say that their cars won't shift as smooth as a honda

My CLS is the best manual transmission I've every driven

I drive thru Providence, RI for my commute, so sometimes it takes 45-60 minutes for my 23 mile commute... driving a stick is a pain, but I'd never get rid of my 6spd because of it..

I did wish I has an automatic briefly back in 2004 when I busted up my ankle (severe sprain and ligament damage), but I was driving to work a week later and working the clutch pedal was good therapy

Some of you guys need to butch up a bit

for some reason... a couple of people complained about our mt being hard to drive. i find it really really really easy. this is my first stick car and i learned on this car with no problem. i'm no pro yet after 3-4 months, but i'm getting there.

the spot where it catches is pretty easy to find. u'll feel a sudden pressure when u step on ur clutch. that's the spot where it engages.

ionno man, maybe there's something wrong with ur car.

i live in socal where the traffic is always there, and i drive mostly locals and i have not complained.

a few people have driven my car (friends, family) and they said it's so easy to drive. they would love to be stuck in traffic with my car... lol

well i hope you figure it out! i say keep it

I'm still to scared to drive the 6MT on these cars ever since the 330xi incident last weekend (I couldn't even move it) in another thread i made the comparison to the 330xi's clutch to the CL-S's hopefully I'm right (but If i'm not then I'm goin for a test drive next weekend on one of these babies).
