Coming home from work, this dude in a 2000 VW Jetta GLS VR6 starts "playing" with me (pulls beside me, slows down, speeds up; you know the drill). I ignored him, because at this point I've become a little cocky, having that "little purple bottle" in my trunk! :sqnteek:

Well, after about a minute of his "insistent playing", I floor it (we were running about 70 mph) and I begin to pull on him, but he continues to stay relatively close to me.

I have to admit that I'm a bit surprised that I'm not "walking him". We shut down at about 120 mph, and get off at the same exit. I give him the thumbs up and we pull beside one another. This is how I found out what year car he has. We exchange pleasantries, and continue on our way (he was pretty cool).

I take a turn, and eventually stop at the next light. I 'm still surprised that my CL hadn't done better than it had. [My Uncle has a '95 Jetta with the VR6, and I've always been able to beat him (not by much, but beat him just the same--without nitrous).]

It turns out that although I opened my nitrous bottle in the parking garage at work, I forgot to arm the system!!!!!!!

So, the nitrous never kicked in!

God, I feel so much better! I was becoming demoralized, thinking that this "was the best I could do against the VR6".

I can't wait to try again!

 

Hey, be thankful you remembered not to race with the parking brake on...
Still, by an inch or a mile, a win is a win.

Yeah, you'd think I would have noticed the "kick". Too be honest, everything happened pretty fast, and I was concentrating more on not running into the poor soles who just happened to be on the highway the same time as us nuts!
