Void Warrenty?

What really does void a warrenty? I have a 98 3.0 CL, and I want to put a new muffler and CAI on. I went to a Acura dealership and asked what voids a warrenty. He said that any products other than comptech would void it. He didn't sound to sure though. So is comptech the only company that doesn't void a warrenty? The answer I get from a lot of racing shops is that mufflers, headers, and CAIs do not void the warrenty.
Hey does anyone know about Tsudo mufflers? Are they any good? What about HP Racing CAI? Which would be better AEM CAI or HP Racing CAI? Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

I did do a search but it really didn't answer my questions. The only thing that came close was a pulley question. The reply was that the pulley would only void the warrenty if they traced the problem back to the pulley. Does that concept apply to the whole car? So if I bought a CAI other than comptech and they trace a problem back to it does it void the intake part of the warrenty ot the whole warrenty itself?

My understanding is that the warranty can't be voided due to a modification. However, if a part fails and it is determined that it failed due to a modification then that part will not be covered under warranty. But, if another part failed two weeks later (for example) and it was unrelated to the modification, then it would be covered under warranty.

The warranty can not be voided simply because a modification is done to the car. However, that doesn't mean that a dealer isn't going to give you a hard time.

Try to search again, but this time, spell "warranty" correctly.... you should get more results!!
Just messing with ya, but seriously, like these guys said, bolt-ons will not void the warranty. Heck, some Acura dealers actually sell and install the Comptech parts!!

I think most dealerships are pretty liberal when it comes to warranty issues. After all, Acura pays the dealer for warranty work. The more warranty work a dealer does, the more money the dealer makes.

Several years ago I installed an aftermarket stereo in my 94' integra. I messed around and blew one of my stock speakers. Thinking that it was my fault, I removed the speaker and brought it in to my local dealer and asked to buy a replacement. The guy at the parts counter asked me how many miles I had on my car. When I told him 13k, he told me that the speaker was covered by my warranty. I told him that I no longer had the stock stereo deck, he told me that it did not matter. He said "if it came on the car, it is covered." I ended up getting a free speaker installed.

Tru dat. Extended Warranties are a completely different story, you have to read the fine print.

things that WILL without a doubt void warranty

1. Salvage titled car (does not matter what the reason is)
2. Verifyable abuse by owner
3. they find signs of flood damage.

The only time they can void a warranty when you use aftermarket parts is when there is proof that the specific mods that you did were the cause of the failure
