The Legend was Acura's premium luxury Sedan and Coupe (and Japan's first real contender in the lux market). They were absolutely fantastic cars. It was replaced by the RL...but the RL is merely a shadow of what the Legend was. If the Legend were around today, it would truely be able to compete with the A8 and 7 Series in performance and luxury but cust under $50K. The RL can compete with no one.

The Vigor was Acura's mid-sized sedan. I don't know a whole lot about it but it was replaced by the TL.

I believe the VIGOR turned into the Gen I TL and the Legend 4DR became the RL.
Also, the VIGOR had a 5-Cylinder engine in it. Legend’s & TL’s have always been 6-Cyl.

I believe the 1st gen TL was also 5 cyl. The vigor has a small following and of course the Legend has completely lived up to its namesake. God if I get my hands on a type II LS coupe with a 6spd!!! I would sell the CL in a heartbeat.

The Acura dealership down the street from my office has a '93 (I think) LS Coupe 6spd. I can't remember how much they were asking. It's awfully tempting.

The Vigor was one of Acuras marketing and design mistakes. Not in the league with the Legends. I had an 88 legend Coupe 5 speed,, and a 95 auto Legend Coupe, that I traded in for the CL 6 speed. I would not have ever sold the 95 Legend Coupoe if it was the 6 speed, it was an automatic. I could never find a 6 speed legend Coupe with lower miles.
The CL is very nice with the 6 speed, but Acura has never made another Legend....yet. The CL was doomed to be a legend wannabe by the 97 CL's that followed the 95 Legend Coupes.
I still want a 6 speed legend Coupe, but low miles ones now don't exist. The CLS 6 is a great car, but it's not a looker like the Legends.

Yea I agree, but it would have to have ZERO miles on it and have been stored in a garage for the last 8-years.

When Acura announced the demise of the Legend in 1995 I was thinking about trading my 91 Coupe in for one.
But there just wasn’t enough difference from the 91 that I was driving.
The car remained relatively unchanged from 1991 through 1995.
5-Speed vs 6-Speed
200Hp vs 230
And basically the same interior & exterior.

The fact that I had just made the final payment on mine and the 95’s were selling for FORTY THREE THOUSAND dollars was the nail in the coffin.

I believe gen I TLs has 2 available engines: the 2.5 5 cylinder carried over from the Vigor, and the 3.2 V-6.

DAMN! I had no clue that the Legend coupes went for that much! Woah!

I will always love the Legend coupes. It's much more foreign looking than all the shit that comes out of Marysville.

It would indeed be nice to find one in perfect condition. I was always fond of that green color, kinda spruce-like, also the maroon color looked good too. BLACK is one color I NEVER see though.

You're right. The Legend name does live on in other parts of the world. But does the car live up to the heritage of the Legend of yore? I don't think so. What I'm saying is: The Legend was a groundbreaking car...it IS a legend. If Acura continued the Legend and continued its groundbreaking tradition, we would have a 7 series fighter. Calling an RL a "Legend" isn't going to get the job done.

3 months ago, I traded in my gold 95 Legend Coupe, 70k miles (automatic) for about $9400. They sold it the next day, but then the deal fell thru. Last I saw they were asking $15k for it and it was gone last time I was there. They also had a black G2 legend Coupe with more miles for sale, but it's gone too.

The 88 G1 Legend Coupe I had with 5 speed shifter is still my favorite car. The 95 Coupe, being a slushy never lived up to the thrill of a shifter, but a damn well built sporty car. People all the time, like a the gas station, would ask me if I would sell it.
Most people thought it was new or a few years old. It was a timeless design.

But now I got my 6 speed in a CL and it is about 75-85% of the Legend, that's pretty good. The CL feels more jittery and not as stable and smooth as the Legend, it felt rock solid.
No one seems to notice the CL, it's boring looking, it looks too much like an Accord or a Civic to most people. Everyone could identify the Legend. That's what an Acura should be and I'd pay more than $30k for that again.

Yea, same for me.
Mine was a 1991 and even as late as 1999 or 2000 most people who weren’t familiar with Acura thought it was only two or three years old.

One of my dad’s friends was over the house one time just before I sold it.
He couldn’t believe the car was 8-years old with over 110,000 on the clock.

When I bought it I had to wait 6-Months for a stick shift model to come in.
The dealer said that only one out of every 100 Legend’s made was a COUPE and only one out of every 100 COUPES was a stick shift.
I’m not sure if those numbers are true or not, but since the demand for the stick shift is still pretty HIGH I would imagine this could be true.

I believe there were somehwere in the neighborhood of 1300-1500 Legend Coupe 6mt's made in each of the 94 and 95 model years. I've tried to find actual production numbers, but haven't had much luck. Anyone know of a good place to look for that type of thing?

When I was in High School I sat in my first Legend and every since then I wanted a Acura. My CL doesn't hold a candle to a Legend in Luxury. The Legend was ahead of it's time.

I have to agree that the Legend is a much more solid car. It also seems to evoke a more emotional response for what ever the reasons.

I was able to find mine this year finally with only 80K on it. It was in almost mint condition - being driven by some corp. exec. in his 50's who bought it with cash.

It is at the dealer now having a harmonic vibration fixed and it's going to cost a lot. As a result I actually think I am going to have to sell my CL

I am going to try to pay the repair bill and keep the CL but if forced to choose the Legend wins.

during the last year of the 1st gen Legend, only 10% came with a stick. I had to look up and down the East Coast to find one when I returned from England (wanted an L, since I couldn't justify the addit $2K for the LS which only added leather ((which you could get as a no cost option in the L)) and the Bose stereo - which I knew would be the first thing to go). Also, the last year of the 1st gen Legends stickered for $28K ... when the 2nd gen '91 came out, there was a $10K increase in price (as indicated above).

Part of the high cost of Legends in 95 was the very strong Japanese yen at the time. It made cars exported out to the US more expensive.
I love the CL but I never liked the look of them. I like a sportier looking coupe, it's too bad with all the great things the CL does have. But I wanted a new Acura and a 6 cylinder with a shifter so I got the CL.
I hope in the next coupe, Acura continues to improve and hit the sweet spot again for me. The CL is very close except for the styling. Not really a keeper like the Legend.

Well the RL is supposedly in a class of its own. Mid-40s in price, fully-loaded with options (like all Acuras), interior space like a 540 BMW, Audi A8, and Lexus LS430.

I'm not sure if this link will work for you, but I did a side-by-side with those vehicles and the only things going against it are the aged exterior design and the engine, both of which will be fixed next year when the RL gets a complete make-over.

http://www.kbb.com/kb/ki.dll/kw.kc.s...S430;sed;2003&

Then there's the pocketbook - Acuras come fully-loaded: A CD player is Optional with the BMW but with the RL you get a 6-disc in-dash Standard, and the Navigation comes Standard on the RL but is Optional on all the other vehicles.

It also has a tighter turning radius than the other three.

Plus if you actually test-drive one you never know, you might fall in love with it.

So the value is there if you actually research it, and it will get a whole lot better next year when the 05 model comes out.

In May of 2000, the dealer offered me 7,800 on the trade for my 2001 CL-S.
His low offer was because he said nobody wanted a stick-shift Legend.

I sold it privately for 11,500 dollars.
Not bad for an 8-year old car with 110,000 miles huh ???

Does anyone know if the Vigor used real wood grain in the car. If so, WOW. I need more wood.
