Post Velocity Stacks

This was posted within another thread, but since it was't directly related I decided to post it separately.

For those that don't know what a velocity stack is or does, here's a few links and some info to help you understand how it can add more power. And best of all, it's a fairly cheap mod.

Velocity stack is not a spacer, but an airflow inhancer that can be attached at various points along the intake system. In the case of the example of the one in the URL below the filter installs over it.

Note, the Comptech Icebox uses this same approach. In my case, not only do I have the CT Icebox, but I've attached a 2nd velocity stack to the front of my ram-air set up, which is at the very front of the CT intake system that extends outside the wheel well. I'll post some pictures as soon as I get it fixed. Had a little accident and need to replace the primary CT intake tube. Anyway, I gained almost 2ths at the track with this set up.

Dyno comparison.

:o . . . I will as soon as I get it back together. I had a little accident and messed up the bottom piece, so there's nothing to see right now. However, if you can mentally picture how the CT Icebox set up looks, the lower intake tube is extended out of the wheel well. I cut a hole in it. Then I've attached a velocity stack on to that.

I've driven it like that for 7 years without any problems. Rain has not been a problem as the filter is at least 24" from the pickup point. I do avoid WOT in heavy rain or areas of standing water.

Again, I'll post pics as soon as I get it fixed. I placed the order for it a week ago.

Did you cut off the velocity stack on the Icebox and extend from there, or just extend from the original vs?

Pics when u fix ur car. And velocity stack ftw. I think that's what I'm gonna put on my turbo instead of finding a place to put the filter. No room at all.

I can get you part # for the K&N filter that fits perfectly overtop of the velocity stack. I don't know what brand of VS I have, but here's a picture of it. I know there's a couple different sizes out there.

I got a 4"id x 6" long coupling from Loews/HD and extended it below the wheel well. Then added a larger velocity stack over the top of the CT's rounded/flared opening. It increased the opening by about 20%.

You can still add a VS to the end of that. It's just easier to exend the CT Icebox because the design puts it in a perfect position to extend it outside of the wheel well and expose it to direct outside air and you get the ram-air effect.

It's hard to get the correct dyno numbers because you don't get the increased air speed as you accelerate. But most show 4-5hp for static air and I'm guessing you can get another 3-5hp when your over 90mph.

Still waiting on my replacement part so I can repair my set up and will post pics as soon as I get it.

Also, Excelerate carries the Vibrant line of velocity stacks. If we can agree on a size and get a volume deal going maybe we can save a few coins. Just a thought if several of you guys want one.

im running the blox velocity stack and it hauls ass screams loud but it hauls. im thinking more then 5hp because i really feel it. I have it coupled to the stock rubber piping trying to get a new pipe. you can get the filter with the velocity stack built into it. 3'' inlet. check weaksauceparts.com
