Vehicle Stability Assistance Question

Not to sound like an idiot, but I have been reading that turning off the Vehicle Stability Assistance actually helps performance. Ok I understand that, but my question is, isnt it allways off until its needed. And how do you know when it is on? Thanks in advanced, but I am new to these Jap performance cars. My previous muscle ride was a 68 goat and the CLS replaced my 2 door camry.

if the light is out, the system is ready and will activate as needed, i would suggest leaving it on for safety, (and not to mention that irritating light will be on all the time)

yeah keep it on, unless u wanna race someone...once activated, your engine dies down considerably to regain traction, and when u're racing, u don't wanna necessarily b losing engine throttle.

Thanks guys! But how do you know when its off? If I press the button and the light stays on, does that mean that I had shut off the system?
