VARAD Scanner

I have a blue LED scanner on my TL-S, on the front of the mirror. It turns on when I take the key out of the ignition. I was coming out of the store and there was a cop that came around and said I have to take it off of my car saying it can't be there. WTF!!!!! I told him its part of the alarm and he goes "I don't care. Take it off! Next time I see you, I'm gonna give u a ticket. " I'm like, it isnt illegal to sell, so why should it be illegal to put on. It doesn't come on when the car is on. It goes off as soon as I put the key in the ignition. Can he really ticket me for this? Other cops I've seen really don't mind, this is the first time its ever happened, and I've had it for abour a year now.

If it comes on only when the car is not in motion, then you are all good. The cop was just on a power trip or something. Now if it were to come on while the car was in motion then the cop would have a point and he could cite you for it.

I personally wouldn't take it off.

If you run into the same cop and he writes you a bogus ticket, you can fight it. Question is if it's worth the hassle to you to keep it there.

its the dumb fucking cops like this, in situations like this that makes me lose respect for traffic laws.

If I were you, I would look up the specific law for your area regarding flashing blue lights on your vehicle. Different areas have different rules. In some parts of KY, the volunteer fire fighters can have blue lights along with their red. And I know I've seen cars around here driving with the blue diodes in the grille.

Check your local electronic part stores. It should run about $3-5/each.

I did it and it was really easy. I got the varad hyper blue LED off some guy on H-A.net for $6 and it is super bright.
