Is V1 Really noticable from outside (COPS)

I know the V1 is the best detector and after doing my math, I figured out that its cheaper to get a ticket for illegal radar and get it confiscated than get another speeding ticket and have my insurance rape me even more. I've seen one in person and it looked pretty big, may be because I've only seen the pics of it before until then.
My question is how noticable is it from the outside when I mout it behind the top windshield tint. What I'm planing to do is, do a hardwire like everyone did here then, as soon as it goes off. take it off my windshield, and hide it under my seat or something, and if I DO get pulled over i'll just show him my sharper image road compass that looks like a radar detector since it mounts on the windshield.

What do you all think?

Be careful about mounting it behind a tint. Most tints have some metal in them and they'll reflect the radar signal away from the detector. Not all of it mind you, but a percentage of it.

I think its going to be kinda hard to unplug and hide that thing everytime it goes off but good luck. Be careful though my mom was driving thru VA and got pulled over for it. The cop didnt take it but he gave her a freakin ticket.

Yea... if you dont have the concealed display... its crazy noticeable from behind.

We have a HUGE rear windshield... no matter where you put your V1 you can plainly see it from behind.

By the time a cop comes after you... theres no way youll be able to unhook it without him seeing.

Save yourself some trouble and forget about it. Or move outta VA.

dont even sweat it dude, i got pulled over once for my radar (whistler)...the whistler was supposed to have vg2 (undetectable by cops), but unforturnately it got detected and the cop pulled me over and gave me a $70 ticket, i called QVC up adn told them they sold me a shitty product, cuz they said it was undetectable, so they paid for my ticket and sent me a new radar...thats what i call customer service..

Hmm... this got me thinking... why not have some LEDs behind the speedometer or one of the other indicators? maybe some in and around the little car icon that tells you which dope didn't close his door right? That way if a cop nails you he won't even see it.

Joe, if you wana meet to check out how i have mine setup..let me know

yeah i still run w/it every once in a while, mostly on long roadtrips though. since it beeps at everything around the city, i dont use it too much anymore...its saved my ass a few times...any decent radar is worth it, whats the worst that could happen if u get caught w/it? a ticket and maybe they confiscate it...but if it saves u once, it has already paid for itself (ticket & insurance)...i work in reston too, but i dont see any CL's, i've only seen a silver one at my building...joe, r u still gonna get the dvd/navi setup?

I have a great idea. Im gonna go up to md get one of the cheast detectors you can get under 50. and also the v1. IF I do get caught I'll just hand over the cheap 50 dollar radar. and hide my v1.

i work at proxicom, in the morino institute building, off sunrise valley (near the hilton). there is one other guy here that drives a silver cl-p, i havent see any other CL's around. mine is black CL-S w/gold trim. i'll keep an eye out for u...

joe - that is actually not a bad idea. giving the cop a bobo radar and keeping the good one. i wish i would've thought of it. also, if u want my 2cents on radar, whenever it beeps i just take ur foot off the gas, if it starts beeping crazy, time to step on the brakes.

Not sure why i didnt think of this before but my neighbor had a radar installed in his 928 that was super descrete. It was expensive but he had little sensors under his bumpers that you could barely see and then he had leds mounted in his dash by the radio. It also came with a main display that he mounted in a cubby thing under the steering wheel. No way a cop could see it so you might want to look into something like that

The V1 is definitely one of the best radar detectors but since you live in VA you could get one of those K40 systems put in. They are completely concealed and use lights behind the dash to tell you there is radar. It might be worth looking into.

I wouldn't think too many people have TWO radar detectors. Sounds like a GOOD idea to me if you dont want to lose an expensive one.
Hell just take an old discman or walkman and make it look like a detector and hand the Man that.

I've only been in VA a few months, but from what I've seen, cops here aren't real strict about it. When I first moved here, I had my detector wired into the fuse box, so I didn't remove it until a passenger once pointed it out to me when stopped next to a cop at a light. It was real obvious, on the windshield, not hidden (though I have 28% tint), so he could have easily seen it. He looked over but either didn't see it or didn't care. Since then, I leave it in the glove box just to be safe until I'm on a highway. Anyone here experience getting caught w/ one?

Hey NovawhiteTypes. I installed the Passport SR-1. The unit mounts in the front grill, it has another laser detector at the back of the car. Both units are very hard to see, especially if you don't know exactly what to look for. I mounted the display unit right inside that little pop-out shelf compartment that sits between the climate control and the stereo. It's easily visible to the driver, cannot be seen by outside drivers. And if I ever get pulled over, I simply turn it off and close the compartment. And literally no one can see it. But it would be nice to have those little directional arrows like the V1. Good luck!
