V1 is hard-wired, on all the time.

I don't speed. It's just for amusement.

I use it 100% of the time.

And find myself 10mph MAX over the limit... I'm not a big speeder. One thing to speed and not get caught by police. Entirely different when you're speeding, driving like a jackass and cause and accident.

I do about 10-15 over the limit... which is what I used to do before I had the V1 anyway. Now I just spend a little less time eyeing the rearview and worrying why ppl are braking up ahead

100% of the time. If I'm on local roads I go 10-15 over, if on the HW 15-20 over.

I use mine on longer trips- I know where the traps are on my short commute trips. (Sometimes I've pulled it out though- and it saved me! )

Always on. I drive whatever speed everyone else is commuting... can be 60, can be 80.. depends on the flow. If I'm not driving during rush hour I usually hang around 75-80mph. I drive this way with or without the V1 (although lately I've been taking the V1 into other cars when I drive.. and using the cigarette power adapter).

on all the time... on a long road trip I'll probably drive about 15-20 or so above the speedlimit. Otherwise I usually only drive 5 above the speed limit.

On all the time. I usually do 15-25 over on the freeway and 10-20 over on surface streets.

I never speed.
I just use my V1 to monitor the presence of our honored Law Enforcement personnel.

Does this V1 actually work well? What kind of a warning... and how early do you get it? I assume you get a warning ONLY if the car ahead of you was being monitored??

it depends what kind of radar it is. If it's the standard radar then you'll get it about a mile in advance. If it's instant on you find out when you get zapped or hopefully the car in front of you gets zapped. I've found that most places in so cal still use the standard Ka that is always on. I've had my V1 pick up a radar literally miles in front of me.

Mine is on 100% of the time, hardwired in. I don't use it as an excuse to speed though. I still watch my speedlimit cause you never know who is going to be pacing you or give you the instant on.

Best investment i've made though, i can't tell you how many times it has gotten me out of serious tickets.

I recently changed my V1 mounting and usage habits.
Even though I’m kind of the “father” of the hard-wire system here, I’ve been running differently.

I got tired of it being on all the time while most of my driving is on city/local roads.
The popularity of Chevy Trailblazers giving false LASER alarms had something to do with this as well.
In Pennsylvania only State Cops can use RADAR and only on the highways so it’s basically useless when you’re in town.

This is what I did.
I bought a phone line coupler, 90-Degree female connector and a 6” wire with dual connector ends.
I keep the 6” wire connected to the V1 in the glovebox when it’s not in use.
The hard-wire setup is connected to the coupler and 90-degree fitting are then wedged between the headliner and the windshield.

When I need to use the V1 I just clip it on the visor and plug into the socket.
I can do it one handed if necessary.

I know…I know…. You want pictures.
LATER, I promise.

laser and varible output K, and Ka guns will still be able to get you.

The variable output Ka, and K guns you can only detect from as close as 300-500ft if the officer has it adjusted that way...

Laser... well, better hope he hits the guy in front of you...

I speed 10MPH max over (most places), and I use the V1 to remind me to slow down. And ya the occasional spirited driving...

USE IT ALL THE TIME, THIS IS THE 2ND ONE I HAVE AND IT DEFIANTELY IS THE BEST INVESTMENT IVE EVER HAD. MY FRIEND HAS THE PASSPORT 8500 AND I STILL THINK THE V1 IS BETER FOR THE EXTRA 100 DOLLARS.

you are? :P

hard wired since 99 biatch

your setup sounds similiar to what i've done w/ all the family cars. I have a V1 prewired in all of them so we can just switch around my V1 and my dads to whichever car we happen to be in

I was referring to the fact that back in early 2000 I had pictures and an FAQ for hard-wiring the V1 to the CL-S.
This was all the way back in the honda-acura.net days and people have been using it ever since.

If you REALLY want to go back in time I had a Radio Shack unit hard-wired to my 74 Ford Maverick back in High School in the early 80’s.

Shawn was the only person standing up to the relentless, brutal anti-V1 hating venom that I was spewing a few years ago about the V1. Go figure.

V1 is not 100% nor will do anything if u get shot at. Only really helps to do it, tell u that you probably going to be next to be zaped by the radar or laser gun.

I remember those days and I really wished I would have saved the TEXT of some of those heated arguments we had.

hey im goin to be gettin a V1 here in the next month and I was just wonderin if you can hardwire it yourself? or did you guys have a professional do it or someone you knew do it for some $$$ and if so, how much did it cost? oh and one more question where do you guys mount the actual detector itself? there's numerous options i know so just curious as to some ideas where to put it at. thanks!

Profession installation NOT required. You are capable of doing this yourself.

I don't speed. I leave my V1 on all the time in search of Trailblazers and shopping centers.

Ken was such the V1 hater back then...

I only use it when I'm driving more than 30 minutes or so. I drive just like I always do but don't scan for cops as much as if I'm not using it.
