used springs???
used springs???
Hi all,
This is my first post, and I already have some questions. I picked up my six speed the other day, and after seeing how the car looks lowered from the pics on this site, I am definitely lookin to lower my car. A friend at work offered me his old Comtech springs for $175. He said retail was $300. So...
1) Is it a good idea to buy used springs?
2) Am I being given a good proce?
Thanks in advance, and I'm looking forward to your replies.

even if the springs have high mileage on them, it's not like they are going to go bad. I say do it, but try to get them for 140-150$

FPAEP - Where did you get the Eibach pro kit from?

It took me a while to find the best price, but here is the site:
Cheap Eibach pro kit link
One thing is, i ordered the springs 2 days ago, and have not gotten any shipping confirmation yet. Also, they don't list their phone numbers. So I don't know how reputable they are, but I gave it a shot anyways. Once I get them i will post something.

i'm curious to hear this too, esp. considering the fact that the eibachs aren't truely made for the 2nd gens anyways.
Personally I swear by eibach, they will be on every car I own, but not if the R&D they did on that spring was for a car that was a few hundred pounds lighter then the car I'm actually putting them on. I made that mistake w/ the sportlines I have now, they were made for the 4 banger and the front end on my 6 cyl is very floaty.

you should have no concerns about using used CT springs. In fact, I preffered used when I was in the market. I figure they will settle in a fraction of the time of new ones and I could get a wheel alignment shortly after installing the springs. That's a whole nother debut though. It's only a deal if you want the springs. Don't settle for something you don't want in the first place. I paid $200 shipped for my used springs.
I actually have used springs on my car. They are not Comptech, they are H&R Sports, but they're similar enough.
I got them and they had about 3k miles (if that) on them... I put them on my car with about 25k miles on them and still have my stock shocks etc. I did need a camber kit with my 18" rims however, but that's b/c the rear of the H&R's are lower then the Comptech... so you should be fine. I agree with the others though... see if you can get it $10-$20 cheaper.

As long as you get springs from a quality manufacturer..(Eibach or Comptech or H&R), they shouldn't sag...and that is the only problem with used springs, they might sag. Eibach for the CL is not the best, I would say CT springs are due to they were designed for the bigger/heavier CL/TL series, corner weighted for the correct specs.
I agree with ghander Eibachs are the shit...but only the prokits are progressive rate v. the sportlines which are linear. If you go linear spring rate, everyone out there has each other spring rates, so usually there is no difference, except for quality of materials and workmanship.
