Question Upper Control Arm Bushing

Have a bad bushing on my passenger-side upper control arm. I assume I just replace the entire control arm rather than getting the old bushing out and using some sort of tool to press a new one in?

Looks like the new arm is about $70 before discounts.

Actually don't need a tool. I just went to the local parts store picked up a replacement for like 10 bucks. Took the control arm off and put it in a vice, knocked out the old one and popped the new one right in. no problems

Interesting. Seems a lot of places don't carry just the bushing. Had also seen another thread say they aren't really replaceable so I'd wondered if the whole thing needed to be changed.

I'll look around for just the bushing. Thanks!

Looking at it on a number of parts websites, they offer the lower but the upper doesn't ever seem to be offered.

Are you sure they offer a replaceable upper bushing?

They do around here in Dallas. You can't just get a replacement ball joint from the dealer, they will just sell you the whole arm for like $300

They have a place here in Dallas called Foreign Car Parts. They carried just the ball joint I was looking for. Only issue was it was an adjustable one made by TRW so I had to get the car realigned, due to the camber change. Worst case though you can just pick up a whole replacement part for like 100 bucks. Just be picky on the brand. Everyone told me Moog was the way to go but those damn ball joints went out like every 3 weeks no joke! Got tired of replacing the whole arm, so I found a place that just sold the ball joint.

I think he's talking about the bushings for upper arms and not the upper ball joint. We know that upper ball joint is replaceable.

MEVOTECH Part # MS60423; $14

That's the only upper control arm bushing I could find on rockauto. Lots more for the lower arm and rear arms so my guess is that it's pretty rare to just replace the bushing. Lots of options for upper control arms. You can get one for 55 bucks with a new ball joint and bushings.

Believe I read somewhere that the bushing it integrated to keep stuff from getting in it.

Seems easiest to just replace the whole thing so I'll go that route.

I haven't done it on this car but I've done it on several other vehicles. If it's a choice between replacing the bushing and the control arm I'll take the control arm.

Good to know. We'll do the whole thing.
