Upgraded calipers

Upgraded calipers
i've noticed people with nsx and legend calipers on their cl's. is there a certain year or model that fits? will any caliper off of an nsx fit on the front of a cl? i found a set off of an 05 nsx, and was wondering if they would fit? also is the diameter of the rotor the same?

i ordered some 95' NSX calipers last friday
to go with these calipers you need 28T brackets or Legend brackets and 95-96 prelude vtec rotors
i believe the diameter of the rotors are 11.2...i could be wrong double check on it

wait a minute, how can this be? 95-96 preludes had 15 inch wheels? isn't a 16" wheel the smallest wheel that will fit over stock cl and tl setups? wouldn't that mean that the entire brake setup would be smaller in diameter?

I guess he's talking about for 1st gen CLs
EDIT: no need for different brackets or rotors, theyre a direct fit. (the earlier NSX calipers)

I may be wrong, but I think they are not exactly the same. The ones I have are off a 97 NSX. The rotors I got were for the CL. I didn't have any problems fitting any part.
Here are the part list for the 05 NSX and 97 NSX. Compare them and probably make a call to Acura.
97 NSX Front Brakes
05 NSX Front Brakes
Also, according to the NSXPrime Forum, it seems like there is a lot more involved than just swapping the parts. Here you go....

ok, so cl rotors should work...they apeear to be the same diameter. the nsx caliper should bolt up to the spindle assembly, i am mainly trying to figure out which year nsx calipers will work. the set i am looking at is just complete front caliper.

does the swap work fine with the master cylinder? i know when i did my z32 turbo caliper swap on my s14, i had to get a z32 master cylinder. the brakes would lock up too quick from the pressure difference.

ok also i've noticed calipers at advanced autoparts and other stores are really cheap. besides the core charge. is that for a complete caliper? they are like less than $85 a piece!!

These calipers will fit:
93-95 Legend LS Coupe
94-95 Legend GS Sedan
91-96 NSX
FYI the Legend calipers will be cheaper than the NSX calipers.
The Legend Coupe calipers actually have the largest pistons.
'91-'96 NSX have 40mm and 36mm pistons
Legend Coupe calipers have 40mm and 38mm pistons
You should be able to get a set of used Legend Coupe calipers for no more than $150/pair!

I'm not sure how big a deal this is, though. I suspect it's done more for wear purposes (the leading edge of the pad tends to bite into the rotor more than the trailing edge), but I don't know how problematic this would be over the long term.
I don't think the nsx calipers have this issue (they are mounted forward of the axle, like those on the cl).

i am ordering some rebuilt nsx calipers from dicount auto parts , and rotora slotted rotors on monday. hopefully this will solve my disgusting warped rotors and brake fade problem.

Why is it so crucial to replace your CL calipers with other ones like the ones from Legend? What is wrong with CL calipers? Wouldn’t upgrading pads and good Rotors have as good of grip? I thought that only CL’s rotors were crappy now the calipers too?
#26
Its about the distrubition of force on the rotor from the single pot caliper. The Legend caliper uses 2 pots instead of 1 like the CL has. Therefore, with the 2, they produce more even distrubition of force from the brakepad to the rotor as compared to 1 central pot.

thanks for your answer pits200
I actually did some research and found that i could get some legend calipers from auto zone or napa for around $50 each. I also have a 1992 Lexus LS400 and 03 CL was suppose to be an upgrade for me. After driving CL and finding out more about breaks and other issues, I do not understand why acura did not pay close attention to this kind of details why not put 2 pots in the breaks of all might CL why go cheap? why put it in Legend and not put 2 pots calipers in CL
my 92 LS400 has 2 pots in the front and the car is 15 years old but i can not believe how close of a attention Toyota put in to Lexus. Is it not true that Acuras one of the biggest competitors is Lexus (Honda VS Toyota) anyways i still love my CL. Just was wondering if anyone felt the same way.

The brake issue and tranny on the autos has been the two biggest sore spots on this forum for as long as I can tell. As for the brakes, spend the extra 100 on rotors and grab yourself some ROTORAS from Excellerate and pick up some Legend calipers for $100 bucks.
Grab yourself Some Motul Blue fluid and spend 3 hours changing your entire brake system.
Brake Fluid- $15
Rotors- $200
Calipers- $100
Pads- $50
SS Brakelines-$100 ( I personally don't have these, but they are for pedal feel)
Piece of Mind-Priceless ( I know the cheesy visa thing)
No reason to find some $100 rotors. Like my dad taught me, Penny Wise Pound Foolish.
Brakes aren't something you will be dealing with all the time once you do it properly. Spend the extra money now and just get it finished with, end of story.
Good luck.

Do you need to trade in your stock/original calipers first? Or is their a deposit and you get it back when you trade yours back in?

You pay about $90/caliper when you order them from the store prior to taking in your stock calipers.
Usually they won't have them in stock at the store, so they order them from the warehouse and in 3-5days when you get the calipers, take off your stockies and just return them as if there is no difference and you get about $40 back for each caliper.
Total cost is only around $100.
I actually found them for a cheaper price at this local parts store around my crib, but I doubt you have a place called, "Frank's Auto Supermarket" thats where I got mine.

Advance Auto Parts has a bunch on their website:

What the heck do I need? They also have about 4-5 different brands.
Loaded, unloaded, semi-loaded? I've learned that I don't need the bracket, I can use the existing one.

so which one do we need? and what are the differences between those?

Loaded calipers come with everything in one box including brake pads and all other hardware that might come with the caliper.
Unloaded calipers are just the caliper w/o the pads and other caliper hardware.
SemiLoaded might just have some other mounting parts or squeal plates included.
You should only need the Unloaded Calipers for this switch.
