Upgraded 5 speeds autos

Well,
out off curiosity and searching the web relentlessly.
I will like to know if any tuners here can provide GOOD info about places, cost and etc .. about where to got about rebuilding or BEEFING UP the 5 speed auto trannies. Especially those going the FI route. HBP/Turbo.

I know a few, have done it, but there is only little info about this.

There are a lot of shops that do trans upgrade (kits install, BV) especially for domestics but, I am pretty sure there are a few import places too and that the kits will not work on our cars, since it would have to be taken apart literally and put bck togerther.

(a 5 speed auto that can stand 400 whp will be GREAT!!)

(responses other than "Just swap in a 6 speed", will be great)
I already know the 6 speed answer.

Doesn't look like TransGo makes a kit for Hondas/Acuras. When I had the auto in my supercharged SHO beefed up, they added a shift kit, added steel to 1st-3rd, and increased the stall on the converter along with brazing the fins. You could also have the internals cryo'd. Still seems like waste though on the CL since the design flaws in the transmission mean that no amount of beefing up will prevent it from failing eventually.

those trans go kits are not for electronic transmissions.
Look at the FAQ there a few posts about this. Level 10 was a place that was doing it, but I doubt they would now since demand was so low.

I'd stay away from any transmission place that isn't local. I had a HORRID experience with an out of state performance builder (was without the car for 5 months and lots of ton of money and had nothing to show for it). Upside is that the company did go out of business in the end.

HP isn't the issue with the CL transmission, it's the LACK OF LUBRICATION caused by a very small unit and insufficient oiling passages. If the clutches were lubricated properly, it would be able to run a fair amt of hp through them. The clutch packs are killed off during the shifting process, not by power flow

In my SHO it worked out great. Held over 450HP with no problems (stock is 220HP). Snap your neck shifts (kit came with 2 springs to choose from, white spring was for stock shifts and yellow spring if you want banging shifts under hard driving). Nothing like killing a Vette on the highway in your 4-door Taurus.

what year SHO? I believe that the first year they are AXOD and not AXOD-E models. Ford's automatics are fairly strong expecially after they fixed the misrouted lubrication problems (pre 92) and quit using an alumninum forward clutch (91 model only) in the taurus and sables

'93. The SHO has the AX4S but not the same AX4S as the normal Taurus. It has additional clutch packs and a couple other differences.

Has anyone ever considered swapping an 06' TL transmission into a CL-S?

Doesn't fit. & you would need the ECU for that car & it's not compatible with the CLS.

Why does it not fit? Have you actually looked into this or are you just saying it wont fit because it from a TL?

Different bolt pattern, different transmission mount point, too large to even fit under the hood, etc. If it was possible, people would have been doing it already.

That's the type of answer I was looking for, thank you. Do you mind telling me where you got this information?

acutally the trans would fit under the CLS hood but it is about an 1" shorter and has different sensor hookups....
