just outta curiosity, did u guys ever associate ur dead trannys with all the engine mods? such as CAI, headers, and so forth? Ever think those things are somehow interrelated? i mean, i kno, those suppossedly dont have anything to do with transmission, but u never know....maybe it cant handle the extra power? or pple with those kinda mods tend to drive more recklessly and beat on their cars more? It just seems to me that all the tranny problems ive been reading, those people got headers/CAI/and other misc...

Anyone else have opinions about this?

there are always warnings, but they are very short. when you notice it slip, 2 or 3 times in 10 minutes period, you only have a few miles to go before its all gone. also, i was completely stock when it happened to me too.

Well I'm no mechanic, but I don't feel that mods have anything to do with the bad trannys. Actually, they don't generate enough torque to make a difference with an acception of possibly a turbo or supercharger.

I've had the very same thought too, but I possed this question to the mechanic (not the service advisor) who works on my car and he told me that they've replaced trannies on cars that have had no mods done on them.

it's a total hit or miss...trannies die with under 100 miles on it , and trannies die after 50K miles

mods have nothing to do with it

it's a nobrainer...the outside contractor for the tranny had a falty design...clutch pack sucked

I was bs-ing w/ another customer at the dealer the other day. He had a bone stock TL-P. Turns out he was a resident doctor at a near by hospital. He told me he's been in three times to get his tranny replaced. So I really don't think it matters what type of driving you, mods you have, etc. Like Scoot said...it's the manf's bad.

I don't need to impress her. The first time i picked her up was in my honda civic I was out east a jillians on 110. I just wanted to get my car home and safe.

I don't think it about the mods i did. i mean, they have lexus IS300 with turbos and auto trannys and no problems. I knowticed that 3rd was slipping and about 10 mins later, boom. d5 started flashing and check engine light came on. I just felt like an asshole infront of this chic. Could i sue on the count of embaressment???? LOL

i have had my car since december 1 2002. i have had three transmissions replaced on it. I just hit 37k and it seems to be going out again. i litterally have the fourth transmission in the car since its life from the poor quality controled plant for Acura. i bought the car brand new.

A lot of tranny's were replaced (some more than once) before they determined what the cause was.

Mine went out at 17k
And the horror stories about gear slipping from 5th to 2nd while crusing 75mph on highway scare me
I am approaching 34k now... was actually thinking about trading it in, maybe an old C70 or something. dunno.
