Underwear check ...

Just minding my own business, doing 65 in the middle lane, coming back from an afternoon appointment. Talking on the cell when ... all of a sudden ... the front wheels lock momentarily ... tach revs to 5,500 ...

Hang up the phone, wait another 6 seconds ... same thing. Fortunately, I knew what was happening ... tranny #2 is taking a sh*t on me. Does get your attention, IN A HURRY especially with everyone else whizzing by at 80+.

Towed to the nearest Acura dealership (55 miles from home). They agree with me, and order new tranny. There I ask about the extended warranty ON THE NEW ONE they will be installing. She says "you don't get 100,000 NEW miles on the new tranny."

So I ask "I guess the 100,000 mile warranty on the transmissions really means ... you can have as many as you like in the first 100,000 miles."

Seems crappy to me as I have 78,000 miles. What good is a 22,000 mile warranty?

that sucks, sorry dude.

I read that the replaced tranny has 36k miles warranty, regardless of the mileage of the car (below 100k)

Yikes! . . . I'm glad that didn't happen to me and that you didn't have a wreck. I can just imagine that happing on an off ramp or overpass . . .

I just took mine in on Monday . . . It had flared a couple of times and figured I needed to be safe and get it done before it did something like that.

Gotta say ... had there been more traffic (this happened around 1 in the afternoon), I would have been rear-ended for sure.

Time to get a 6 speed! used ones are pretty cheap. Not sure if the 03 auto is any better.

They should convert the auto's to 6 speeds for all the trouble people have gone through...

I haven't read much either way on the 03 auto's.

There was an 03 on here that did fail a few months ago. Was kinda hoping there wasn't gonna be one.

If my 2nd tranny failed and it caused an accident I'd be calling a lawyer right away. Screw Acura a little for screwing us so hard.

Thank God I haven't heard of that happening. I'd be so pissed.

I just went out of warranty, and #3 is really starting to act funny. I'm gonna call the dealer to set up an appointment. We'll see how willing they are to help me with 102k on the car, and 37k on this tranny.

That number is total BS. And or skewed to appease whoever it had too...

There's an obvious flaw with the design, it's only a matter of time before any of them fail from it.

Our tranny doesn't fall into the bullet-proof category...

So far I've put 5,000 miles on the new tranny, and it's running like a charm!!

I am glad, however, that I got the extended warranty for my car so my tranny is protected for 7yrs, 100k.

My VIN is not included in the 100k extended warranty which all '01, '02, and some '03s obtain.....

I'm hoping that if my car does need a new Tranny after 100k, I will be able to salvage a tranny from a total loss wreck, or there will be an alternative "upgraded" tranny.

But let's hope this is the last tranny I'll ever need replaced!! Thanks for asking Keith-

I think they may work with you if you are a usual customer and have a good rapour with the dealer. May even do a courtsey replacement.

I've had three Acuras from this dealer, and my high mileage has given them some good business over the years.
