Type-S Swap Opportunity

I've been keeping my eye on a wrecked 01 cl type -s auto with 96k miles locally and the seller has came down on the price a lot. So I decided to go look at the car in person yesterday. If I bought it I would just swap the type s engine and trans straight into my car. It's still a auto but I can get the car for cheap. I would take everything I want off the car first then have a complete part out. I have a 02 cl-p how hard is it to do the conversion? Just need the cluster and ecu correct? Is the engine wiring harness the same?

My thought my trans was done around 8,000 miles ago but suddenly it started working again so I've been driving it the past few months. My car also has about 40k miles more. There's no clean 03 type-s 6 speeds black on black locally worth selling my car for.

I knew about the seats and shift knob. I didn't know the sway bars were different though. I already have 03 door panels and rear interior quarter panels in my car with the silver trim that I picked up.

The front sway is the same size, the rear is different. The steering ratios are quicker on the Type S as well. The ABS system is 3 channel on the CL-P vs the CL-S Autos 4 channel system (the 03 6MT however uses the 3 channel system).

I think the harness wiring is different but I cant be 100% sure.

I dont think its worth going from a CL-P automatic to a CL-S automatic. You still have that transmission which is a $2000 time bomb. The only difference now is you have more power going through it.

You could also put on the Type-S wheels, headers, light weight crank pulley and CAI and you are just about there for cheap!

I'd think you'd be better off getting a 3.5L to swap in than wasting time, money and effort on that Type-S swap. You could find a decent price on a low mileage odyssey motor to put in your CL-P. Based upon what I've read, it might be a better deal than putting the J32 out of the Type-S in there. It'll also be less work than trying to convert you P into an S... unless that's what you're going to try to do.

definitely doesnt make sense to do this kind of a swap. you will be better off buying a wrecked 6 speed and swapping that over with pretty much the same amount of labor.

It just seems like a lot of work to swap around between a CL-P and a CL-S for the marginal gains. I was pretty impressed with the P, though I had a little remorse over not getting a CL-S. All of the Type S's that I found in my area had over 100K and most had a salvage title. We found our CL-P with 53K and grandma owned and garaged most of the time. I couldn't pass it up. When the tranny gives it up, I'm swapping the motor to a 3.5 and getting newer auto.

I wish you luck on whatever you decide. It's always fun getting into a project. You'd probably make some money parting it out.

I would love to pick up a 03 type s 6 speed black on black but it's like impossible to find one with low miles and in great condition. I always keep a eye out on them because I would sell my car in a second to buy one.

Under 100k I actually found one today that caught my eye. It's at a acura dealership but it's 13 hrs 18 mins / 831.57 miles away haha. I called to find out some more details on it. I'm going to see what my options are and I might buy it.

IMHO 100k isn't exactly low miles.

50k is more in the range of being allow to be deemed "low miles"

I think it's safe to say it's almost impossible to find a 03 type s 6 speed black on black that's in very good condition bone stock with more in the range of 50k miles. I've been keeping a eye out for this exact car for awhile and I actually found one today. I spoke to a friend that lives close by the dealership and he's going to go check out the car Sat morning. Depending on what he says I might be picking myself up the car I really wanted for awhile now. I'll let you know how it goes guys wish me luck!

The one I'm looking at is a trade in at a acura dealership only has one owner, bone stock, original paint with no body work, and under 100k miles. From the pictures it looks mint and not abused. So it all depends what my friend says after he checks the car out this Sat. I don't want anything with mods and that's been abused by a young person lol.

My car can be turned 100% back to stock. I save all the original parts to my car so that when I chose to sell it one day, it will be sold in stock form including the original tires. As far as abuse goes, these cars always get redlined here and there and to tell you the truth, the motors can take it and still run upwards of 300,000 miles.

Good idea as long as it's no one from this forum that knows your car. Ohh I know they can handle the abuse I just rather buy one from a owner who hasn't and keep all the abusing to me lol. How many miles does yours have?
