Turbo CL - In-Car Review

First of all, I've gotta thank allmotor_2000 for being welcoming and _incredibly_ cool... cool enough to take his turbo CL for a ride with me riding shotgun

I have to say... I've been in some pretty fast cars with some pretty good drivers driving em... but this takes the fucking cake! We got off to a pretty gradual start, and I was expecting the turbo kit to not be tremendously faster than the Comptech S/C kit (cause I've been in a pretty heavily modded & blown TL-S)... boy was I wrong. He hit the gas in third gear on a street, the revs weren't up there or anything, but the pull was strong as hell. I had a huge grin on my face because this blew the doors off of almost every car I've ever been in, and then Ram turns to me and says...

"Yeah, I wasn't flooring it there."

Amazed as I was, what I didn't realize is that we were headed for the freeway. There was a red light so we were basically at 0mph at the point where he turned right onto the onramp... and get this, guys... by the time we merged into traffic, we were past 100 already

By the time we got back, I had a smile that I could hardly wipe from my face, but unfortunately I couldn't stay long and had to go (a friend was starving). Power3dFX was also there with his pimp S/C TL in what is my favorite color for a car these days: clean white. So I was late and I didn't stay long, and it was still a rockin' experience... thanks again to allmotor_2000 and Power3dFX.

Needless to say, Ram is an excellent driver and an even better engineer, from the looks of it. His car is absolutely fucking amazing and there are no other words to describe how great it feels to be in a CL that pulls harder than a Ferrari.

P.S. All this... was in 95 degree weather... I can not imagine what that turbo feels like in what passes for a winter in California.

Glad to hear you got to experience the turbo. I had a huge load of fun riding around in one also! Even better when you actually get to drive it Still amazes me how fast that turbo spools. I'm used to my car now. I could order a pizza by the time it spools up. When the other turbo CL comes back up, I'm going to try and get some more vids of it so I can make up for the crappy video I made a week ago.

I've been to Mardi Gras twice and I would NEVER take my car there!

Against the S/C'd TL-S... we went at it once - 8+ cars, couldn't really tell.

You mean too far back to tell?

Man, more and more I hear about your car, the more I want to go turbo on mine. I'm so jealous of you.

Ball-bearing, low boost, high compression, and it was specifically matched to do that. I actually spent a lot of time calculating and deciding on which A/R turbine housing to use. The 0.82 A/R worked out perfect. Nice low spool up and strong top end. The turbo in your car is still and awesome little turbo, just a different match than what I wanted for my system. You've got a HELL of a top end, just need to wait a while for it to spool up and build all that boost. That WRX is fast!

True, true, and all that keeping in mind... we don't need our turbo to spool up as fast as the WRX/Evo guys do, cause the 6 cylinder makes gobs more torque than the 4s. It's tough not to marvel at what a great design Ram's turbo setup is.

...imagine what riding shotgun in one would do =) My considerations of trading my 01 for an 03 6MT are getting stronger and stronger since that night.
