trying a header install

i'm gettin ready to put my headers in but i was wondering if there were any tips on getting at the rear exhaust manifold...i know you're supposed to get at it from the top but did you guys just feel around back there for the bolts or did you remove some of the stuff in the back of the engine for more access?

thanks for the help

Oh sorry. If you remove the strut tower bar it will be a lot eazier to get to the rear nuts but you can work around that if you are as lazy as I am.

You can lay across the intake and get a pretty good reach down to the nuts on the manifold. Manifold goes in/out from the bottom though.

Im thinking of tackling this isntall too and i was worried about the same thing. Getting the rear manifold off. so i can just lay across the block and reach down? are the bolts torqued on extreamly tight?

I did mine by jamming my arm in there... It can be done but you become one with your engine.. also if you have a lift and air wrench some of them can be gotton to from the bottom.

The small bolts on the manifold aren't torqued very high. I broke mine loose with a 1/4 inch ratchet. It helps to lay a cushion across the intake, stand on something and lay your chest on the intake. You can then find a comfortable spot to get your arm in there. Just be careful of the plastic cover in front of the radiator. It will crack if you put your knee in the wrong spot.
