I can take footage of my car at WOT with the Icebox if you want to hear how it sounds all I need is someone to host. Ill do it from 0-60 and from rolling start. I assure you it will sound pleasing and makes the car sound like a sport luxury car instead of a rice-a-roni car

Opinions Opinions...
Get the AEM. You'll love the sound it produces.
you'll love how it looks under your hood. (doesn't matter to me, but to some people it does)
Most likely the exact same gains.
It isn't that hard to clean the filter either. Just do it when the car is up on the lift at your local dealership. The guys at mine are cool, and don't give a damn if I'm back there.

FYI, I probably spend more time under the hood and under car then you ever have.
Being the gas station attendant that fills the washer fluid doesn't count

Everyone is saying that with the AEM you can just get the filter from under the car, but from my experience with the car and where the AEM filter goes, that would require pulling off the bumper, which takes no time, but it's a pain in the a$$....
So can you get to the AEM filter from the top to clean it?
I think you both are gas station attendents

It pulls right out the bottom.
I really don’t understand what the big deal is about cleaning.
You only have to do it like once or twice a year depending on how many miles you drive.

Maybe a VISUAL AID will help..........
This is the Xephyr, but the AEM comes out the same way.
Notice the piece of the lower splash guard hanging down and the bumper that is STILL ATTACHED to the car.

BA HA HA HA HA HA HA, good one, no ping for me thank you...
I totally forgot about that flap...that would make it much easier...I took out my resonator with the bumper off when I was clearing the lights, figured I'd just do it then to prepare for an intake install...
Word from Dean is that the icebox is not going to be on backorder anymore after this week, thank god, ordered mine on 3/11...should be coming in next week!
oh and AGENTDSS
I watched your video last night when I got home, great vid, showed it to my friends and we got a big kick out of it...were you holding the camera WHILE you were driving! Livin' on the edge man!

Shawn the Xepher is pointing downward while the AEM points towards the front hitting the bumper....so in order to get the filter out you need to loosen the whole intake if you don't have the by/pass and if you do you have to loosen the bottom screw and the by-pass. It is still not difficult but not as easy as an above the car filter charge
Shit I don't have a 2 ton jack and in order to make my job easier I had to drive up on a curb and do the removing there. Not difficult but more of a pain in the ass while the Icebox is 3 screws to take the cover off and one for the clamp holding the filter and thats it.

Fawk I went out to do the video but it is still raining and I don't want to be doing 0-100 mph with a camera in one hand cause you might be seeing something more than expected

I think it just depends on the look you want and your other mods. I went with the Icebox because everything else on my car is Comptech. I did this to stay consistent. The icebox is no louder at idle than stock but there is a difference in the upper RPM range, and yes, VTEC is a bit louder/deeper with the icebox.

Well, you make a good argument about the AEM differences, but I still think it’s not too bad a job if you only have to do it once a year.

Hey maybe AEM should offer it with there intake cause you know they're gonna need it. I think the shipping cost might be more though.

Hey Shawn, I picked up that $29 jack set today..pretty nice.
That damn pin you had to punch into each jackstand was a pain in the ass though!
I seem to get similar heights with this jack compared to my stock one That normal, right?

All aftermarket intakes utilize some sort of reusable filter (urethane foam or cotton) that should last the life of the car. You need to clean them every 10 - 50K miles by washing and re-treating with an oil spray. A recharging kit is pretty cheap - maybe @$15 - and will get you through a few cleanings.
See the K & N Filter website to learn more about re-usable air filters. This is probably the most popular manufacturer of aftermarket air filters. They use a cotton mesh as their filter medium. AEM uses a K&N (or K&N type) cone filter as do other manufacturers of the snorkel CAIs. Comptech uses a urethane foam material for their filters. People cite pros & cons of each material (essentially relating to ability to filter and increased air flow) and you'll have to decide if any of that matters.
You can also buy a OEM replacement filter from K&N (part 33-2178 for Type S) if you want to exchange your filter without changing your intake system. Aftermarket filters are higher flow then the OEM and supposedly allow the car to 'breath' a little better then stock. Some suggest (as does K&N) that gas mileage and HP are also marginally improved, but I doubt it. I bought one simple because it's a better product then stock and because it's reuseable.

Thanks for a GREAT explanation. I appreciate the detail. I am seriously considering an Icebox for my car and maybe a OEM replacement for my wife's.
