Trunk

Does anyoen know why there are no trunk close handles on the trunk..dont you all hate it when you close the trunk and you have to leave those stupid finger marks right on the edge of hte trunk. ANyone know if you could install your own handle or something or where you could find anything? I know lexus GS400s their trunk handle looks liek there are just 2 screws holding it in, so possibly it could be sold in parts department but not sure. any suggestions? I also like how Benz opens the trunk fully when you push the trunk button. ANyone know if its hard to install shocks to make the turnk fly open fully rather than an inch?

Reach on the inside to pull it down. It'll become second-nature after a while...

I'm sure you can adjust your springs to open the trunk all the way... I had to adjust my spoiler springs and it opens the trunk all the way.... Watch out for over head objects, I was stupid with this one time when visiting a client and I put a small ding in my trunk It's all good... --=Keith

i close my trunk by pushing on the Acura emblem since it's screwed through the body, not the word ACURA since pressure could loosen the stickiness of the tape holding the letters to the body. and no smudge marks on the body.

i used to pull the trunk close from the inside, however, during a service, the Acura guys greased the trunk hinge so sloppily, there's grease all over the housing around the hinge i used to grab to pull the trunk closed. besides, i feel a little more comfortable pushing the trunk closed rather than pulling it (im afraid of damaging the housing if i pull too hard).

There are two settings for the trunk springs. You can increase the angle of opening by moving the spring to the next groove. You need the special tool: 08M10-SM4-100

I just put my index finger on the bottom part of the circle around the Acura calipers and close it. No finger prints and it's second nature now.

thanks for all the responses.
I guess i might be stuck with just touching the acura emblem. How exactly do you adjust the springs. I notice most cars that have a trunk that flies open has shocks on the trunk however i see nothing on our cars. I think im just lazy. Dont want to open the trunk or touch the emblem to close the trunk.
Maybe i can go fidn some other car company's trunk lever and put ti on our cars.

Hey AirC I was wondering about the same thing, I was saying to my friends, How come a $30,000.00 car doesn't have a handle to close the trunk.

My dad has a Lexus GS400, and I was wondering the same thing about putting the GS400 trunk Handle to the Acura. I already looked at the handle from his car and I do not think there would be a problem in putting the Lexus trunk handle to the Acura... I am going to do it (I haven't had the time though), I just need to go to Lexus and buy the part.

IMO I think it is annoying not having a trunk handle considering that my previous 3 cars had one.

Let me know if you decide to to this, and if I get a chance to go to Lexus and get the part I will post pictures, and let you know how much they want for the part.

Try this link for an illustration on how to use the spring tool. The second notch is stronger, but I don't think it will raise the lid all the way. I think the tool is about $10? I'm not sure.

I used to have the same problem with my 300M. There was no place to grab onto to close the trunk without leaving fingerprints. Many of us used the "one finger" method and just used the keylock hole to close it. It was harder to close then the Acura.

As a result, I was used to not touching the trunk. With the Acura, I just reach inside and grab, I think, the trunk release area and close it from there. It's very easy to do. This trunk closes a lot easier then the 300. Again, with practice, there's no problem. You don't need any Lexus straps.

Try closing with the back of your hand -- doesn't sound too smart, but the back of most hands, don't have all of the oil that a palm does. (Works for me, just looks silly)

I've tried the inside the trunk trick, but I hate the thought of mashing my hand in the trunk.
