hey guys whats up? im new to the board..thought i should start off by tellin u guys my kill...drivin home from work i notice a yellow gti (vw) going pretty slow...so ive always respected those cars..i mean everyone always tell me that they are fast and what not...plus with my previous cars the gtu used to eat me alive..so i respect them..so i said to myself lets see what they are really about with my 3.0 99 cl...i start downshiftin my car into second (auto trans) and start gettin on his ass...next thing i know he was down for the race...so he takes off...i stay a car behind cuz i dident expect him to take off..i catch up to him and we catch a light..there is where i said im a goner since hes a stick and also his car doesnt even weigh half of mine...light turns green and were off again..i pull my car on him instantly...we keep racing and im still ahead im already on 3rd gear and hes already side by side with me...reminder were going already like 100mph on a 40 mph street that everywhere u look theres cops...but w/e next thing i know he shifts in 4 and im gone he starts stayin behind behind behing look in my mirros and im a full car ahead of him.....woo hoo i won...i guess the feedback on the gti that i was told was wrong....what u guys think...

I think you should be locked up doing 100 in a 40. I'm all for safe high speed racing once in a while, but not on local roads...jeese. It's not cool... it's foolish.

Nice kill, but the only time I'd EVER hit 100mph+ is on a parkway, turnpike or major interstate. For me, if I'm ahead @ 60mph, I'll consider it a kill and go no farther. just my $.02.

Was it a 2.0 4 banger GTI, or a VR6 GTI? Because the 4 banger is the asian Hooker of GTI's, they just suck.. The VR6 GTI is a mini rocket ship. Anyways, Rock out with ya cock out...

well i think it was the vr6.....unless it was a fake one....but if im not mistaken the yellow ones are the fastest one's....just like u can tell the differance between a real blue civic 99 si and a fake...i dunno...

Early MKIV GTIs did come with the 2.0L N/A engine, making a whopping 115 whp. It's more than likely this was one of them. The badging on such a model would simply have GTI on the back, whereas the 1.8T or VR6 would have a 1.8T or VR6 badge in addition to the GTI one.

Hey!!!!The person didn't say what year (some have 2.0's, other's 18t, and some VR6's ass), and color of a GTi doesn't f'in' matter yo. That's like me saying my 2.2cl is faster than a white 2.2cl since it's black???? Just because a GTi is classic VW Conary Yellow doesn't mean it can be a 2.0 dick! Rock out with ya cock out.
