Transmission slipping after stalling in high water

Hey all.

I need some assistance. Saturday night I ran my 2001 CL into some high water (no street lights so never saw it coming). She stalled out on me, but I was able to get her restarted and got out.

I have some water in the floorboard that I'm going to pull the carpet up, so it can dry out and I thought that was the worst of any damage. However this morning on the way to work the transmission started slipping. It's only doing it from a stop, when I have been holding the brake down. Doesn't seem to be an issue if it sits idle in Park and then I put it into drive and go.

The transmission fluid is good, there's no water in it. No check engine lights and no other issues. Seems to drive fine at highway speeds...only an issue from a stop where it hesitates really bad and then finally engages. I pulled into my driveway (that is slightly sloped) after this started and usually Drive and not pushing the gas will still cause it to roll forward or at least sit steady, however after this started if I put it into Drive it will roll backwards down my driveway.

I have the mechanic take a look and he said I need to rebuild the tranny, but that's what they always say. I just had it rebuilt 8 months ago (unfortunately only a 6 month warranty).

Also as a side note the air filter was soggy, so I replaced it

Otherwise I'm fairly handy and can do some of this on my own (short of a rebuild), but if it's going to need a rebuild I'll just get rid of it.

Looking for suggestions on what I should look at that the water might have caused damage to?

Thank you all in advance!

You should do a 1x3 to see if there's water in tranny. Optional- depends how long you were submerged. Obviously if there's water you ned to get all of it out.

Check Shift Solenoids A, B, & C connections for water log. Maybe clean them with electrical contact cleaner.

Check tranny ground straps... may of knock loose by wall of water.

Check shift cable at both ends... might be out of adjustment.

If everything checks out ok the you may want to start replacing parts.

Replace the following in order as listed or all at once. Personally I would use OEM only.
1. Shift Solenoid A & C.
2. Shift Solenoid B.

Floorboard water

If your carpet and padding is soaked then replace the padding. You can get that at any carpet store, just get the same thickness of padding.

To prevent mold, disinfect the carpet and the floor board with Lysol, Pinesol, bleach or whatever.

Ok so I have a quick update. When I left to go to work this morning I hopped on the freeway (less starting and stopping) and as soon as I got up to about 65ish the CEL and TCS lights came on. Went to auto part store and shows a P0131 - O2 Sensor.

Coincidence?

My mechanic replaced it cause I didn't have time as i needed to get to work for a meeting. I'll pick it up in an hour or so to see if it solves it.

I wouldn't think an O2 Sensor would cause this sluggishness off the line...thoughts?

O2 sensor not related to trans issue. May be related to flooding. Water causes all kinds of electrial problems.

Could the O2 sensor cause it to almost choke from a start?

Ok...I'll let you know after I pick it up. I wasn't 100% sure it was slipping...more like not engaging from a start. Which I construed as a slip...but hopefully that's all.

Either way thanks for the diagrams...if this doesn't fix it i'll be going through each of them 1 by 1 this weekend.
