transmission fluid change

How much does Acura delearship charge for transmission fluid change?
My delear recommended to change it at 15K. It's kind of early, it should be at least 25K-30K.

I wuz told by my Acura dealer to have the tranny fluid changed at 15K as well. Whatever it costs -- do it -- there's a good reason (maybe because we're animals?) I've read too many weird tranny stories, and it's NOT worth cheapin' out to take a chance. I had it bundled into my 15K service, so I can't tell you how much it cost.

See, I dont know if those transmission related problems are related to transmission fluid, many people had their transmissions go wrong before 15K miles. Maintance says to change it at 30K for hard driving, and at normal driving its 90K miles.
But 15K miles???
I guess I'll change it... but then I will not do any yearly maintance, I change oil and rotate tires, nothing else needed before 30K miles.

My dealer told me 30k, no reason to change it at 15k.

To get the most out of your transmission, you should change your tranny fluis after 15K. Also my Acura dealer charged me 45 dollars to replace my fluid.

I'm so confused. We have so many different opinions on this one. Some people say 30k and no sooner, others including Acura service people on this board saying absolutely change at 15k. I'm going in on Monday for my 15k service and unless they try to change my mind, i'm going to be safe and change now.

I got my 30k maintenance done at a local Honda dealer for $167 vs $472 Acura dealer quoted me (tran fluid, oil, cabin air filter, and go thrugh entire checklist from Main. schedule). Honda needed to order the cabin air filter from Acura.

Who gives a damn when its changed? ITS covered under warranty if something goes wrong. I'll get mine done at 30K most likely.

This is true. ALL DEALERSHIPS are trying to make a buck. And it sucks when you live in a big city that relies heavily on one dealership. IE) POHANKA ACURA---SUCKS ASS!

Helllo, TypeSKid.

Do you live in the SAME Washington, D.C., USA (metro area) as I do? Have you NEVER heard of RADLEY ACURA in Bailey's Crossroads? (or Karen Radley Acura in Woodbridge?) They are QUALITY Acura dealerships -- check out their web sites, and/or give 'em a call. I live in Maryland, almost an hour away from Radley, but I work near D.C., so I drive the extra miles to Radley at Bailey's 'cause they have really late evening service hours, are reasonably competent, and are NOT rip-off artists like Pohanka (or Rosenthal) or jerks like Criswell (who is only 25 minutes from my house).

However, it ALWAYS pays to be well-informed and know your rights--that's why we have our forum!

Yeah, I drive my car very easy, dont abuse it, there is no need to change tranny fluid at 15K miles, owners manual says 30K miles for hard driving, thats exactly when I will change my tranny fluid, and this would probably be over kill.....

I am close to hitting 15K miles, if I will listen to everything my dealerships says, I will have to put down around 300$ dolors.
My user manual says to change tranny fluid at 30K miles for hard driving, and 90K miles for normal driving. I drive 'normal', and yes I relize that 90K miles is way to much,
therefore I think 30K miles should be reasonable time to do the transmission fluid change....

Hold on a sec here, I think you read the manual wrong because I believe the manual states to change the fluid at 15k for extreme driving conditions and at 30k for normal driving conditions, not 90k as you have stated. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Yes, I do believe as well that dealerships are in the business of ripping people off, and listening to all they say will cost you a pretty penny, and most likely will be unnecessary work. Example, charging $85 for inspection when everyone else charges $60. I asked the service technician why do you charge more, and he did not give an answer just he said that "we know what we are doing". Riiiiight, its take a whole lotta brain to do an inspection on a vehicle, . I think I can train a monkey to do this.

As far as transmission fluid, I am getting mine done today, along with an oil change. I have 18k on the car. I think they are charging $46 and the service technician of course said that they recommend doing it at 15k . Whatever, I am just gonna get it done and we'll see if it will show am improvement. I drive my car hard only 15% of the time. I am usually under 2200 rpms.

I doube checked my User manual, it says to change transmision fluid every 30K miles for Hard driving, and 90K miles for normal driving.
????
Mistake in Manual ???!!!
If 30K miles is not a mistake, then it does not make sense to change it before 30

Also, Acura knows their own car. When they change your car's transmissiion fluid, they use genuine Honda fluid. If you go to Pep boys or perhaps some other car store, they wouldn't use Genuine Honda tranny fluid. Also our transmissions only require Genuine Honda tranny fluid too.

I just changed mine at 20k. Had I been on the board earlier, I would have done it at 15k.

I did it myself (http://www.acura-cl.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=009555) for $15 for all parts. Shift quality was improved, but not a huge bit.

IMHO, it's worth the $20-$50 for peace of mind and cheap insurance.

BTW - it's not about it being under warranty if it fails at 50,0001 miles.
