Tranny service procedures

If I get my tranny serviced at a local shop instead of the dealer, what kind of fulid should they use, Dexron II or III, and do they actually drop the pan and replace the gasket? Or do they just drain it and refill? Just need to know so I can watch them and be sure they don't do anything more than they need to.

DON"T use their trans oil,,, they will use dextron and then sell you a can of honda additive,,, there is no such thing,,, use honda Z1 trans oil only,, and they will only drain out 2.7 qts,,, they need to do the nine qt flush method,, which is, drain, (1)add 2 qts run for 3 min, drain, repeat (1) 3 times then add 2.7 qts. www.hparts.com under specials,, has oil for $2.89/qt with shipping mine comes to $3.40/qt,,, honda , it's ussally 4-7 plus tax.

Honda Auto. Trans. Fluid (ATF) only! No exceptions. Consult your manual.

typeR--You may know about transmission but if your tranny goes out you may not know warranties if they find out you didn't follow Acura recommendations.

Thanks guys, I found a Acura dealer that did the drain and refill for me for 24.99. This way I know its done as close to right as possible. While talking to the service mgr, he told me that if our tranny goes, the new ones have been updated and they also replace the ECU along with all trannys that used to be a problem I guess. Is this true? He made it sound like with our 100k warranty and the new/refurb trannys being fixed, we have nothing to worry about, now if I could just get my tranny to go out before 100k.

the owners manual says...and i quote if honda fluid isnt available use a dexron III ....also the transmissions are not checked "AT ALL>>>>" they are just unbolted and a new one bolted in period....

BTW i just got mine back.....the 1-2 shift is definetly soft...but the car it self isnt slower...mow does the ET go up because of this longer duration shift? we'll see...
