tranny issue with 01cls
hey there, i dont come on here much, but like to register the boards still with familys friends cars. anyways, my brother bought an 01cls back about 1 year ago, and everything was fine. took it to the dealer shortly after purchasing it, and had the tranny flushed from acura. well about 3/4 days ago, my brother told me about his tranny acting up. so i asked him further questions and he responded that the symptoms were while driving, the rpm would rev silly high, and second/thrid gear would finally kick in, jerking the car really badly. now i know there were issues with the trannies already, so i read up on it, printed out the lawsuit against honda, gave it to my brother and told him to take it to honda. well, today he went to honda, they inspected and says that hell need a new tranny, $3200 part and $800 labor approximately and that the 7yr/100kmile warranty was up for the free recall. his car currently has 98,xxx miles on it, where should we go from here?
does anyone know of what part specifically goes bad in the tranny? is it a replaceable part, or is it a part thats linked to many others and has to be bought as a package? because how do tranny places rebuild them and cost like $1300-$1500? because i am my own mechanic, but have yet to work on autotrannies, i would like some feedback on complexity or installing/replacing parts, or just where we should go from here.
please get back, in a bind.
