Tranny #3 Update

I called the dealer this morning to see how long it would be until my baby's ready to be picked up from her surgery. Tranny #3 hasn't arrived yet (I took it in Tuesday afternoon), but they think the car will be ready Wednesday or Thursday.

I'm not sure I can live without it that long. The '03 TL-P loaner is nice an' all, but it just ain't the same.

I guess I really do love my ride!!

Sad. If it breaks again you've got yourself a lemon. I'd negotiate for an '03 with you car's current payoff balance if that happened.

Yo Paul...you go to Acura of Boston? Is your loaner TLP Silver? If so, you are probably in the same one I had when they replaced my Tranny in December. Good luck man...see you at lunch next week.

# 3, wow. I guess that answers the question I wanted to ask, do they just put the same crapy tranny back in when it goes.
Mine started slipping recently, so I was going to contact the deal. I crashed it instead.

I haven't read the Lemon Law in NH very thoroughly, so I'm not sure what would happen. But, it shouldn't be a problem, cuz the problems have all been fixed.

If it were to happen, I'd try to find a 6-speed fo sho! Of course, my miles are way up there, so who knows what would happen. Aaaahhh...I'm not gonna think about it much.

They put "new" ones in. Newly rebuilt.

D'oh, that's no good. As long as you're alright.

Just talked to the Service cat at the dealer. Damn tranny hasn't arrived at the dealer yet. He's hoping it comes tomorrow (Wednesday), and if it does, my car should be ready Thursday. Then, he said it should DEFINITELY be ready by the weekend...that's what he's shooting for. WTF?!? I understand I'm not the only one in need of a new tranny, and the TL-P is a fine car, but I want my baby!! I miss her, dammit!! [/vent]

People about the lemon law it doesn't cover SHIT. All u people that expect that the dealer will trade a used '01 with x amount of miles on it for a '03...are FKin crazy. All the Lemon Law does is MAKE the dealer buy back the car.

So if u have a car with 30K on the odometer here is how it is calculated:

30K (mileage) x $30K (purchase price of the vehicle) / 120,000 (the expected life of the car)

So that comes out to be $7.5 that is then owed on the vehicle if a '03 is the same PP of a '01. So unless the mileage is LOW u are screwed.

I'm not expecting to get an '03 for nothin'. In fact, I'm not "really" expecting tranny #3 to fall apart, but if it does, I'd be interested in seeing how to get an "03 6-Speed...that's all.

Thanks for the info, though.

Well, I talked to the dealer this afternoon, and he said the tranny STILL hasn't arrived. He expects it there tomorrow, in which case my car would be ready Friday afternoon. Of course, I'm bartending Friday night, so I won't be able to pick it up until Saturday morning.

Dammit!! I'm getting very angry!! :swear2:

When I had my engine rebuilt at Sunnyside... it took them 6 freaking weeks to get it done!... I waited some 5 weeks just to see the engine block on the floor...

I don't know if this is the fault of Sunnyside, Acura, or perhaps just slow luck for me, but I'm growing tired of Sunnyside. I used to be treated like a king when I walked in there. They were very prompt about updating me if my car needed something other than routine maintenance. But now, I'm just another prick schlep walkin' through the door. F*ckin' annoying as shit, considering all the business I've given them the last 5-plus years. Christ, I have my car in there all the time for routine service cuz I drive so many damn miles!!

I wouldn't imagine that Sunnyside would slow anything down "intentionally". Doesn't make sense that they would since I am sure that they want things out of the shop (or off the lot) as quick as possible and they want the loaner back too. I have been treated well up there but never had any warranty work done. When the dealership isn't making any money off the deal I bet they look at you differently. Not that they should (of course!!!).

I'm sure it's not Sunnyside's fault, but I just felt like gining them shit for it anyway.

I just talked to Ted...THE DAMN TRANNY STILL ISN'T THERE YET!! He said it still could get there today, and that he'll call me when it comes in. Freak that!! I'm callin' him this afternoon...I'm callin' every hour, on the hour, dammit!!

Well, if it were my baby getting work done then I might be doing the same thing, but it won't get it done any sooner.

Good luck man.

Ya. sorry dude. Mine is going in tommrow for it

Today it started slipping in reverse. I would put it in reverse, the car rolled forward for 2 feet, then it slammed into reverse.

I called Acura they seem to think they can switch it out in less than a week. I tried to not laugh at the guy on the phone.

Then I nicely told him it took 30days last time.

The first one took 3 or 4 days. How sad is it that we're doing this more than once?!?

Bulldog just don't try to piss them off too much or you never know they might do the old THROW SOME FINE GRINDED METAL PARTICLES IN THE TRANNY FLUID JOB.
I know how you feel when I got my tranny replaced they gave me a Chevy Impala from Enterprise and boy did I hate that car. Everything was different the sound sytem, the seats, the steering, the brakes and most importantly the tires cause I had to drive the renter in snow and rain and the car was all over the road.

I know our cars are different than Porsches and Corvettes but can you imagine you drive in your Porsche 911 turbo for service and as you wait at the front door they drive up a brand new Kia Sephia renter with no power windows and not even a CD player and then he has to drive that to his Golf club and fancy restaurants that would kill me

They'd never do that.

An '03 TL-P is a nice car, but it ain't my CL-S!

I'm gonna pick it up Saturday morning and take it up to my Supra buddy's house and we're gonna do the CAI install...I can't wait!!

When I get the Stone headers, I'll swap the stock box back in so I can get a true stock dyno, then I'll swap the AEM back in afterward.

Maybe, if the weather's warm enough, I'll put the sills on, too.

OK,

So IT HAPPENED TO ME TOO!

I was crusing home today down the highway, and BAM!

2nd gear! it happens when you lightly throttle the gas above 65.

HOLY SHIT DID THAT SCARE THE SHIT OUT OF ME!

On the good side, I got off and took side streets home. Lucky the dude behind me didn't get too pissed off at me when I almost stopped imediately.

On the interesting side. I had my digital camera in the backseat. I made some mpeg videos of the tranny slipping, and the tranny dropping into 2nd by itself. Ignore my commentary (i was a little pissed) and I had metallica garage days on.

Tow truck is on it's way....

I'll put the movies up in a few

Watch the 1st video and notice the RPMS going nuts, but the speed not changing Keep in mind its in D5!

Lol, ignore my smartass duh "im not sure if its broken" in the second video. I was being a little sarcastic to myself. hey humor is the only way to look at this situation

Watch the transmission get confused, keeps swtiching gears with the same ammount of throttle applied.
http://24.221.30.40/~cls/mov00058.mpg

Stuck in 2nd gear.
http://24.221.30.40/~cls/mov00060.mpg

Time to go wait for the tow truck out front

EDIT:

In the 1st video, that insane jump in RPM is the transmission. I did not change the position of my foot on the accelerator. Notice my lunge forward a bit.

Damn, man! That's what mine was doing for the last month, and I finally got scared of it spontaneously downshifting like the first one did. Glad you're ok, and that you weren't mushed from behind like...like a penguin.

LMFAO!!!!!

Naaahhh...it's Pete. tmk70 thought it was Paul for some reason, but I told him it was Pete at lunch the other day. He felt silly, but there was no reason to feel silly at all. I couldn't remember blackmagiCL_S' name at first, either. My little step-brother's name is Paul...if it matters.

The first one went in D5. The second one didn't go through the spontaneous downshift, but it was slipping through every gear while in D5. I haven't used SS in quite a while. I gate shift for fun.

2 more videos from the bunch.

Tranny trying to dump back into second at almost 70mph! Lucky I let off the gas!
http://24.221.30.40/~cls/mov00054.mpg

Good example of the trans slipping. Watch the RPM jump up all the sudden, and then the trans re-engages and it drop back down. Right at 4k rpms the tranny lets go. LOL, too bad my speedo doesnt move like the tach! (hehe) Like a nuetral drop when the trans re-engages. Surge forward.
http://24.221.30.40/~cls/mov00057.mpg

Scary! (keep in mind I did these expecting the trans to act up, no way is this car safe to drive. Why I had it towed. This is all on my way home from work)
