To trade in, or not?

I have an 01 CL-S, and have the urge to trade it in on an 03 6 speed. So what do you think, will they lower the prices to move them out, or expect full price since they are now going into extinction? I know the dealer in my area only has one in the showroom, and has not discounted it one penny.

I never saw the point in spending money into getting the same car.

If you musthave the 6-speed then why not buy a slightly used one and save even more money on buying it

trading your car for the same thing but newer and with a stick is pointless unless your rich, then you can do whatever the hell you want. Seems like a waste to me though.

The question might be a moot one. Can you even find a dealer that has a 2003 6spd left. I'm sure there are a few floating around, but you might have to settle for a used 6spd.

People have bought new 6spd in the 26-27K price range here. You'll have to do a search to get specific examples.

If you really enjoy the car but are missing the stick. Then do it. Trade that sucker in as so many have done before you.

they must not be holding their value, kbb.com has it listed for 23k private party, and 20k trade in. Depreciation sucks.

No new car is a wise purchase. Let someone else take the hit for the initial $5K. Has no bearing on whether the car is holding it's value or not...they all drop after you buy them.

There are plenty of kids out there who get approved for a car...only to trade it back in after a month because their insurance/payment/whatever is too high. Buyers Remorse is a biotch.

I checked KBB, my 01 CL-S has a trade in of 17k, and the private party is 19k. I have 38000 miles. But it still runs great, on the first tranny and yet too. Plus its paid off. I should just keep it. I would feel much better if they never came out with the 6 speed.

Yes I did dallison, ordered it in 3/00, one came in for me in may, and had scratches on the hood, they offered to repaint the hood for me, with no deduction in cost or anything, so i refused it, finally picked up the new one on 6/1/00. The one with the scratches was still on the lot too.

Did you get yours there as well?

Like everything else in life, it depends on how much its worth to you. To some people, trading a car for a newer one just like it but with a stick would be a waste of money, but, if you're a hard-core car enthusiast (like most people here), it's worth it. Many people have traded their 01 or 02 for an 03 6 speed (myself included) for the simple reason that they want one.

I think the 03 CL Type S 6 speed is a huge bargain compared to what else is out there. I visit the G35 and RX8 boards (who doesn't?), and on the RX8 forum, many of the members (while absolutely loving their sharp cars) are unhappy with the poor gas mileage (their real world experience seems to be 14 mpg city and 18-19 mpg highway). One poster commented that there aren't too many 4 passenger, high performance 25 mpg sports cars out there, and it hit me that we have that with the 03 CL-S 6 speed: it's faster than the RX8, has a much bigger back seat and trunk, gets much better gas mileage (20/28 mpg), and at about $27k for a leftover new one, is cheaper than a $33k RX8 or a $37k G35 (the CL might not look as distinctive as those cars, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder).

So, depreciation does suck, but if you love driving and want a stick, the only thing that matters is if it's worth it to you.

Happy new year, and have fun!

no my g/f bought her 97 tl from this guy named fred he's black and talks almost like eddie murphy. funny as hell. he's not with acura anymore. you'de know em if he was your sales guy. the only prob she had was the scratches on the bottom rear of the bumper were covered over by them with the stuff in the bottle shitty work.
i liked their old place and miss the parking lot. now they are like everyone else on the auto mile.
we looked at a 00 tl a year ago and it was taffetta white and the bumpers were a different shade of white than the car so it looked goofy. asked if they would repaint it they said no so we left.
i got my cl from reading acura, they run a first class operation down there

I think i know who you are talking about, but i had an older sales person. I liked their old location better, but i guess they are better off on the auto mile now. the showroom is much nicer now.

KBB is notoriously inflated...youd be lucky to get 14k on trade in, more realistically, 12k-13k

the retail of your car is closer to 17k, not the trade in...

Jim...what are you talking about? Trade in is $16,600 w/no Navi....straight from NADA. $19,300 retail(which is what autotrader seems to be right at also).

Hell, my 02 non-navi is on Autotrader for $21,500 & I've just about got it sold(been out there 2 weeks).

Stick to trucks buddy.

you couldnt get 17k for your car on TRADE IN right now, you MAY get the 21,500 you are braggin about but thats only because you are selling it directly to a buyer. when i sold my 2002 CL-S in Feb 02 with 12k miles on it, i had to FIGHT for 20k....trade in value dillusion is a disease that many suffer from. what the books say, and what a dealer actually offer are always 2 very different things.

Damn well either way, i still look at my car like a 32k car, so I guess i better just hold on to it until i really have a reason to get rid of it.

Jim...I'll make it simple. Trade is less, Retail is more. Trade + a few percent is a Private-Party sale. No dillusions there.

Just because you couldn't get a decent deal, doesn't mean the average Joe can't. I got offered $19K on a G35 trade less than a month ago...no rebates, no BS. Everyone knows trade numbers FROM A DEALER are scewd...they pay what they think you will take. Real value/trade numbers come from an average of local dealer auctions & bank values(NADA). If people are dumb enough to take what they offer, don't blame it on poor re-sale.

And, I'm not bragging about $21,500...that's just to show what the market will bear...but that's in THIS market...I'm sure trucks are a higher commodity where you live.

You can easily get a new CL Type-S 6-spd for $26k. I negotiated one last night just to see what I could get it for. The car has 31 miles on it. It is brand new. Good like finding one, though. I had to call around to find one.

I had an ‘01 CLS. I liked the car but missed driving with a MT. I traded it in last Jan. for an ‘03 CLS 6sp Anthracite. Let me tell you, there's a big difference in driving experience between the auto and MT. After a year already, I still look forward to driving it every day. I didn't feel this way about the auto. I've since modded the 6sp with CT springs/sways/strutbar/intake/headers/b-pipe/exhaust and konis. The 6sp takes to modding much more so than the auto does. I'm looking forward to the SC and brake upgrades.

GET THE 03 CLS 6sp... I feel its well worth it.

This is what I would do, I would list the car and see what you can get for it. If you can sell it for a GOOD price, then you may be able to drop 3-4k on a used 6spd (if you find one for a good price). alot of variables..........
