TRACK RESULTS Nov. 2nd interesting...

Well, as some of you may be aware, Roell, JohnTypeS and myself went to union grove dragaway yesterday we had a great time. there were at least 12 GTP's there, we didnt talk to them much but we definately kept an eye on their times. to put it simply, guys, the SLOWEST GTP time i saw was a 14.3 and the FASTEST was a 13.2....so maybe that will start to shut up some of the people who seem to think GTP's are slow. basically, we were no competition but whatever, that really isnt a surprise. what was surprising, at least for me, was the times my car ran. as you guys can see from my signature, i dont have any performance mods besides the OBX headers and i have my intake resonator removed. MY previous racing experience at union grove was very good, and my car was running consistant 14.8@94 mph. that time was PRE-headers. well, yesterday, i drove my car for 6 runs, and my girlfreind drove it for 5 runs. the conditions were good for racing, it was about 40 degrees and very dry, and a bit windy. my car was in the same condition it was in the last time at the track besides the temperature. trunk emptied out, 1/4 tank of gas, stock tire pressure (35 psi in the front and rear) and when i did my runs, i gate shifted.

my first run was a 14.72@98.55 mph

notice the HIGH trap speed on that one. from here, things just got better. my VERY NEXT run was a 14.44@98.21!!!!!

that turned out to be my personal best run of the day, keep in mind, that THE ONLY THING IVE CHANGED ON THE CAR IS THE OBX HEADERS!!! i gained 4 TENTHS and 4 MPH in trap speed from the OBX headers!! to say the least, im very pleased!!

but thats not the end of it, things got even better. my girlfreind went for her first run EVER at a race track and she left it in D5 and just torque breaked to about 2000 rpm and gunned it on green, her first run was a 14.45@99.44!!!! now, correct me if im wrong, but that is one of the highest trap speeds ever recorded for an automatic, non-NOS CL-S, isnt it???

but thats not the end of it either, she ran a few more times and was able to get a 14.39@99.37!!!! DAMN was i surprised to see that, and she did the same thing, just leaving it in automatic and flooring it on green.

granted, she weights about 100 lbs less than me, so obviously her weight helped out in that, but still, i think we were all pretty impressed.

Roell and John were also hitting good times, they were both getting 14.4 and i think Roell hit a 14.3. but they NEVER had a trap speed as high as me. very interesting. well, all in all, it was a HELL of a time and i am very pleased with the results. im not sure what to do next to my car, but it seems my car is pretty quick and id like to see what else i can do to make this thing fly. im thinking UR pullies might do the trick, id like to see it trap at 100 or better. that would be very impressive, and its not too far off as you can tell by the times my car was able to obtain.

track conditions???? LIGHWIEGHT RIMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You'll pick speed and time. Congrats!!!! Well if you look at the times the slowest GTP ran 14.3 and so did you. I assume the GTP was stock.

EVERY GTP there was modified to some degree. the 14.3 GTP probably just had the smaller pulley and some CAI box or something, the GTP's running 13's had alot of stuff!! very impressive, these GTP's are no joke, fuckin a, some of the GTP guys had fuckin MICKEY THOMPSON RACING SLICKS on the front of their car....a CL-S ever try that??? hahaha, it was very humbling to see in person what most of us already know, a modded CL-S is no match for a modded GTP. we just can not touch low 13's, maybe someone with that supercharger and a 6 speed CL-S could, but thats about it. and not to mention, there are quite a few GTP's in the 12's and even in the 11's!!! so we still have a LOOOONG way to go to ever be able to claim supremacy over a modded GTP. the track conditions were as i said, 40 degrees, sunny, kinda windy, very dry. the traction was a problem, the stock tires suck ass, if i had some better tires, i bet i could have hit a 14.3 myself and had my girlfreind hitting 14.2 at over 100!! her 60 foot time was 2.36 on her 14.39@99.37, it was all because of shitty traction, if she had better tires working for her, she could have probably trapped at over 100. interesting note about my rims, i guess i kinda forgot about that zapata, when i changed the rims down at Nicky Pass's house, they didnt seem much lighter, but who knows, maybe they are. and if so, im sure that did help.

Re: TRACK RESULTS Nov. 2nd interesting...

Damn dude thats impressive. Maybe these OBX headers due to the slightly smaller holes are causing it to have better mid range than the COMPTECH ones. Sometimes its a negative to have a completely free flowing exhaust.

Thats damn impressive......

Congrats!

Also for your comment. the same GTP I ran and was dead even with, put a CAI on, and he ran 13.8 from his previous of 14.4 when we were dead even.

After I get my headers I plan to run him again. But GTP stock for stock our cars are a bit quicker.

My boys GTP ran 13.8 last friday night when I ran 15.0 in that rental Maxima. Also a few others ran 13.8s in there GTPs. They have smaller pulleys, cai, exhaust. To get into the low 13s, they need some type of stuff replaced under the valve cover for better top end. I forget what he callde it. But personally these aren't sligtly modded, they are starting to be heavily modded once you get past 13.8.

Jimcol,
Your rims weight 23.3 lbs a piece. Not much of a savings over the stock rims. If you picked up some SSR competitions, Volk, OZ supperleggra etc., you'd drop a good amount of time i can say for sure.

It was great to meet some of you guys, and finally see what the CL looks like. As stated traction was a problem for both the GTPs and CL's.

The turnout for the GTPs was great, and the fastest GP was Blitz's with a 12.8 with a 1.7 60ft. I was also hoping for 12's but traction and losing 1 mph in the traps kept me in the low 13's ended up with a 13.077 @ 104

nice times jim.

thats really cool that your girl ran that fast too, and in full auto mode

your car is making good power on the top end. and your (slightly) lighter wheels are helping your trap out even more.

btw, my fastest trap to date is a 99.77

but i just got new rims on friday, and they weigh only 14.5 pounds

13's here i come

Wow... my best trap was 99.65... you guys are pretty quick! Been engineering a few mods for my next trip to Carlsbad - hoping for E.T's in the 13.5 to 13.7 range. Will keep you posted.
My ultimate goal is to run a S/C'd CL-S 6spd side-by-side and beat it allmotor.

No point in rattling off like an empty barrel unless I have improved time-slips to prove it.... so we'll just have to wait and see. I am going on vacation in Decembe... so I don't know if I'll get to go to the track until Jan of '03.

Union grove was good to me that day, I was surprised that the turn out for CL's were not bigger. I also felt bad for the one CL, a Red one that I raced twice, both times I hit 12.9's when they were hitting a pretty respectable 14.3, but it looked like a slaughter against me.

By the way those weren't Mickey T's, they were Hoosiers, and my 4 "1.7" 60 foots in a row are why we use them. You guys should get a set and try them, thirteens wouldnt be out of the question then.

Nice to meet some of you out there.

they have them with+ 42 offset. should be a perfect fit when you go from +55 to +42 and tire goes from 215 to 235... the only issue I can see, is that this rim is only 7" wide... we need 7.5 or 8 for 235 series.

I will get those rim if they have them in 18x7.5 or 18x8 with +42 or +45 offset!
