the Toyota Solara vs Accord V-6 Coupe

Lets face it guys these 2 cars are like practically twins.
The 2002 Solara has 200 HP similar styling(for about another 3-4 months) to the Accord. Only thing I like about the Solara/Toyota they offer "soup-up parts" at the dealership(TRD parts)
now 2003 Accord V-6(according to dad which works for honda) he said they're keeping the 3 liter for sure. but it will pump 210-220 HP(they'll make a few minor changes to keep out a few more HP). Now here's the big news according also to dad. he believes by the time the 03 Accord comes out honda should have their performance aftermarket stuff going(I know we got Comptech and Mugen but it's not like TRD where you can go to most Toyota dealerships while they're changing your oil and order a cat-back system). Now moving on since we're talking about "mods" I truely believe with the 03 Accord with the new Comptech Supercharger(no other mods) it will be tapping 13.5's(on a good day)but I know this is old news Honda said they are gonna bring performance part company into the dealership but who did they sign to make the parts (was it comptech or mugen or they making the parts themself )

13.5 just w/ a supercharger? hmm unless its manual and has i/h/e it'll barely break 14. may be w/ NOS... the comptech accord got 14.6 w/I/H/E but it was auto.

but I knew it was too good to be true for the 03 accord to get 240 hp. 210 sounds more like it.

According to Hondatuner magazine they we're cranking 13.7s(best run of the day i think) but still 13.5s I'd be so excited cause that's awesome for an Accord next up to bat WRX

Well, I orignally favored the Toyota Solara V6 initially because it actually offered a 5-speed manual with the V6 engine. However, Toyota no longer offers that for 2002, so I am back to where I begun. I like the Accord's styling better, and it drives better, so I'd choose the Accord.

220HP sounds like more than enough for the Accord, but I wouldn't be surprised to see more than that, regardless of what your dad says.

Odd, because Dick Colliver said they're willing to put horsepower up to 240HP. Oh well.

I agree 100%...the Solara is a chick mobile....I'd MUCH rather have the Accord V6 Coupe. I hate Toyotas, though....the most non-descript of all imports.

Actually 14.6 was the AVERAGE time of all the runs I believe.

The quickest time was a 14.4 if I remember correctly.

I thought they still have the v6 in the 5 speed. At least that's what I thought I saw on their site..?

I've been driving my gf's 2000 solara ever since she's gotten it and it's pretty nice. Very similar to the accords. I also hear that next year they are going to go with a new engine with a lot more power. Also a new design...

I would base your choice on what style you like best and not on what performance upgrade you can get via the dealer (ripoff!). I have no personal experience with Toyota aftermarket stuff, but I do with Hondas and there is millions of aftermarket upgrades available that give you much more options than anything through the dealer. Install a set of real coilovers (Tein, Progress, H&R, etc.) with a set of Suspension Techniques sway bars on your Honda, slap on proper 17" tires and you'll never regret your choice!

Even if Honda does have in house tuning at the dealer, i still don't think they will do the same for acura. Not enough demand on performance parts for the acuras except for the rsx and nsx. On a side note, i think if Honda wants the accord to stay competetive with Nissan that have to boost horses to at least 240. For the same price a person can have an altima or for a little more a maxima.
