TL-S faster than CL-S

Too bad all you CL-S boys are gonna be smoked by the lighter/faster TL-S. I am glad I waited for the four door version to come out before I bought my Acura.

So you are basing your decision to buy that particular car on the fact that its lighter and perhaps faster than the CL-S? That's real bright.

Acura hasn't released any specifics yet so how do you know?

let's see...
(from acura.com, weights w/o nav)
acura cl premium - 3470 lbs
acura tl (current) - 3483 lbs

w/o type-s enhancements, the cl is LIGHTER than the tl.

w/ type-s enhancements, the cl is heavier than a regular tl...

OH!!! i forgot that acura used anti-gravity plating on the type-s enhancements for the tl-s, so it must be lighter because those enhancements don't weight anything now!!!

if comparing apples to apples (type-s to type-s, prem. to prem), the cl-s will be several pounds LIGHTER than the tl-s.

so i'm sorry, YOU'RE WRONG!

Even if the Tl-s is faster, it still has 4 doors. Why not wait for a MDX-S? That might be even more appropriate.

In the event that the TL-S *is* lighter than the CL-S, would a few pounds cause that much of a difference that we would be "smoked"? I think not, friend, I believe it would be a couple inch difference.

Wouldn't the 2 extra doors weigh it down?

Hey, how about an RL-S?

You know, I look out my window every 4 or 5 hours to take a look at the awsome looking car I have. The CL is so beautiful, I know I will love this car for at least 7 - 10 years to come. Since I got it lowered I have only become fonder of it. Remember that we purchased the CL for many reasons. Alot of us purchased it for its power. I know that power was only one of many thoughts on my mind when I saw the CL TypeS.

I purchased (and received) a "personal" luxury-sports (in that order) coupe with 260HP. Choosing the TL vs. CL shouldn't be about which is fastest ... IMHO.

That's okay, I really like my CL-S today. About as much as anyone can "love" a car. However, in 4 or 5 years, I'd rather have a '06 CL-S in my driveway. At least I think I would....

This is indeed a pretty pointless post. Who cares if it is lighter? (which I find hard to believe anyway) But even if it is lighter, it will not be more than a few pounds which means just about ZERO in performance gain.

My previous car had four doors and I was looking to get something a little more sporty and less "family car" looking. Personally, I feel the only four door cars that don't look like family cars are smaller four door cars like the BMW 3-series and Lexus IS300. Other than that, you are driving a family sedan. In the case of the TL-S, a family sedan with some power.

If you are so worried about the performance numbers and not what you are driving then just by a CL-S and take all the luxury features out so that you can bring the weight down and smoke all of the other CL-S's.

If you want a fast 4 door get the 540i j/k

I doubt the TL-S will be lighter than the CL-S. It's not possible cuz now you have to throw the VSA which I believe adds like 50 pounds if I'm correct.

So the originator of this post is fredjones and it was his first post here. Hmmmm, that's odd that he'd start one like this. I find it a rather ludicrous statement saying that one of two cars that have the same HP and weights within 100 pounds of each other will "smoke" the other. It's not worth getting all up in a tissy about though. We all love our cars whether TL or CL. Just stating the facts here though, neither car will be able to "smoke" the other.

Oh, I just had a thought... maybe he meant more people could "smoke" in the TL-S. That would be true then because the TL holds five.

ok...the TL is a 5-seater and the CL is a 4-seater. Doesn't that mean that the TL is wider because more people can fit in the back. So wouldn't it be heavier?

I think they are pretty much the same in regard to width...all that really matters is the weight, hp, torque, coefficient of drag...neither car will smoke each other...who brought this topic up anyway???

Who would make up the fact that they were from Hattisburg? And I guess you'd probably have to be from Mississippi to know that MS is the abbrev.

the TL is lighter than the current CL-P which in turn, is lighter than the CL-S. the CL-S is 3510 lbs curb weight. the CL-P is 3470. The current 01 TL is 3483. The 1999 TL, without side airbags and other stuff was in the 3300s.

I owned a 99 3.2 TL and as I recall, the manual said the weight was 3450. I would imagine the new TL would be right up there with the CL or even heavier.

From what I've been reading on the other board (sorry guys, but I'm looking at the TL-S too ) the Tl-S is going to be a little under 100 pounds lighter then the CL-S. What does that translate into?? A few ticks quicker 0-60. Honestly, I'm looking into both cars and the real question should be do you want the coupe or the sedan. The fact that you come on here with your first post with a topic like this just shows your ignorance. If you really think a 10th of a second or so qualifies as "smoking" another car, you've been "smoking" something yourself. I'd also put money on several of thes guys on here to smoke you in their CL-S....

BTW, pimpintypes..... great reply

That means that the TL-S will be lighter than the current TL-P. I don't think so. The current CL-S is 3510 w/o Navi and 3525 with Navi so at heaviest the TL-S will be 3430.. NOT!! The current TL-P weighs 3483 w/o Navi and 3494 w/Navi. Somehow the math just does not add up here.

I'm just reporting what other people have heard either from dealers or from the Auto Shows. You know, it is possible for them to make a car lighter after it's redesigned. Just b/c it's a TL doesn't mean it's going to weigh the same as the current models. I guess we'll just have to wait and see when Acura publishes specs. Either way, the guy who started this topic is wrong.....

We won't know until official specs come out but here are the specs of the current CL/TL models so we at least don't have to argue over them...

CL-P - 3470
CL-P /w NAV - 3485
CL-S - 3510
CL-S /w NAV - 3525

TL Sedan - 3483
TL Sedan /w NAV - 3494

You can only compare the TL weight to the CL-P weight and doing that comparison shows that the TL Sedan is 13lbs heavier than the CL-P and the TL Sedan /w NAV is 9lbs heavier than the CL-P /w NAV.

Got the specs from www.autosite.com
