TL-S = CL-S Car Exclusivity

Since now that the TL-S has been released, I am assuming most people will go for the convenience of the TL over the CL. I am assuming CL sales will be even lower than what they already are.

Does this mean that we need not worry about seeing 3 or 4 CLs in a day? Or does it mean we will be seeing way more since the price will be driven down...

Something to think about. I'd love to hear what y'all say.

I remember people saying that if Acura did make a TL-S, it would mean certain death for the CL-S. If I remember correctly, kensteele was worried about this......

I wonder how many sales the TL-S will steal from the CL-S also..... good question.

Honda/Acura sales stats (on a model by model basis) are posted monthly. One place to find them is theautochannel.com

Here's a link for March's sales:

http://www.theautochannel.com/articl...03/017945.html

It'll be interesting to see the shift next month since the TL-S will have been out for the full month.

it's a coupe...there are people who prefer coupes over sedans (not much though).

how long has the sc300/400 been out and we still see only a little more of them than the cl-s/p?

unless it's a cavalier or civic or saturn or integra, we're never going to see that many $30k+ coupes around...which i think is good.

I would say its a matter of preference for a lot of people. If TL-S would have been out when I bought the CL-S I would have still bought the CL-S. I personally just don't like 4-doors Thats 2 more than I need.

It's a nice car, but Coupe lovers don't buy 4 DOOR "FAMILY" SEDAN ! I am 40 and still have NO, what so ever, interest in a "4" DOOR FAMILY SEDAN !

I wasn't very concern about "exclusivity", but rather the resell value of the CL-S.

Given the choice of a TL-S or a CL-S, I'd take the 4-door in a second, unless the CL is substantially less expensive.

That's just my personal preference though...

All good gripes, but I think the Quantitative Marketing Guru's in the backoffices of American Honda are smarter than us.

Believe me, if a coupe was a loss leader or some type of drain to the balance sheet....they would kill it quicker than a rabid dog.

The only exception to that rule is a "halo" car....and it's pretty obvious that the CL is not.

I initially was thinking like RandyMax, which would have the better resale value. I figured that if the TL outsold the CL by a factor of three, there's obviously more demand for that car which could help resale down the line. So before I bought my CL-S in January, I drove over to the LA Auto show since Acura was going to have the TL-S on display. Once I saw the styling, I knew I'd never be happy in it so I went back and confidently bought the CL-S. I haven't looked back since. I still think the TL will have slightly better resale value but daily happiness from the CL more than compensates.

what does that say about a car buyer though if they buy a car and hope to sell it while it has some value left?

i'll probably be in the market for another car in 5-6 years (family plans i guess)...but this car is still going to stay with me for a long time, so resale value taken far enough over a long enough amount of time will be average...unless it's a yugo or something.

Well, maybe that the car buyer is hoping something better comes along in the next few years? No, the reality is that I'm extremely happy with this car and I'll probably keep it a long time (I drove my last car for 11 1/2 years!) but I think it’s wise to at least consider resale value. That was one reason I decided against the Volvo S60 T5. I do miss the manual shift on occasion though. I still find myself automatically grabbing the gear selector and attempting to shift when going quickly going around corners. Old habits fade slowly.

i guess i'm partly wrong, but unless the resale value is terrible, like for a lot of domestic cars, then i'm not too worried. of course it's not gonna be spectacular...1) it's a coupe, and 2) it's a mass produced car starting around $30k, but it's gonna be better than probably the last generation, and probably better than most cars out there because it is known for reliability.

but if someone's hoping for something better to come along in a few years, that's why it's better to lease...because you're hoping to be in something new in 4 or so years.
