I have stock rims & tires. I want to put on Potenza RE730 Size 245/35zr17.

Can i put those on the stock rims and would there be any complications?

Hope you get lowering springs cuz with 35's you will have SUV sized wheel gaps!!! And I agree with NOVA about the width.

Yup, 225/45x17 is largest anyone here has put on without rubbing somewhere, and the way I go after corners, I don't want any part of rubbing. I got the Toyo Proxes T1S and am delighted.

Too wide, don't do it. You will regret it.

235/45-17 is the absolute max on the stock wheel. I did it, it worked wonderfully.

Here is one possible problem. The Toyos I have in the 235/45-17 have a reinforced carcass and a really thick rim protector. Unlike the RE-730, which has this steel ring in the sidewall (that's what I felt on a ride I checked out), the Toyos protect the rim with an super thick rubber lip. This makes it very hard to get an alignment done.

I was told that I would get some minor scratching to the clear coat if I wanted to have an alignment done (with the 235/45-17 Toyos on the 17x7" stock rims). (I checked with 3 shops on this after a member brought this up).

Since the RE-730s have a different way of protecting the rim, you will probably be ok if you go with a 235/45-17.

Finally, there are members here that are running the 225/45-17. The biggest improvement your going to get from the tire swap, is the better rubber compound, tread design, and other improvements in the tire. The stock tires suck big time in new pavement (black top), in water, and in squealing.

BTW -- some people claim that you can't run 235/45-17s on a lowered car. You can if you run them on the stock rims (I'm talking about 1-2" drop). If your talking about moving to 8" wide wheels with 235 rubber, you are going to rub if you lower the car. I haven't lowered the car, it handles great, and it NEVER rubs.

Eric waht do you think about having 18x7.4 though with a 2 inch drop. O r near a 2 inch drop. Do you think i can still handle 235/40?

I don't know -- I know someone who is going to try 235/45-17 with 17x7.5" and +52 offset, I will see if this is what they end up with. (This person talked with HRE, and they were going to make up some custom wheels -- at least that's what I heard).

I would have NEVER had a problem dropping the car with the 235s on the stock rims, it was easy to see that the tires would clear the fender lip. Now that the tires on are on the 8" wide +48 offset SSRs, I can only say that I would be doing some fender rolling and I would sure hope the lowering springs were on the stiff side.

I think I've already gotten myself into trouble (with one member -- I'll spare their name), so I have to say, "I just don't know for sure."

I think you're probably on the right track, but it would really be nice to have more information from ALL of the members on slight rubbing problems.

I just ordered the tires.

Potenza RE730 235/45/17...$158 installed.

I'll let you know how they feel when I get them. Thanks again to everyone for your help.

i think the most you can go is 235/40ZR17... my tires are those specs and i think that's the widest and smallest series tire that can fit on stock rims
