Tire size help..

OK...which size tire has a taller profile in actuallity. 225/45/18 or 235/40/18. Also I know that 225/40/18 is the closet to stock size for our CL-S but is it a hair taller or shorter. And lastly does anyone have any pics of the first two sizes on a CL-S. Thanks guys...prolly gonna keep the 18's w/ new tires but I don't wanna go w/ 225/40/18's anymore. Ride was a little too harsh for me.

235/40 is closer to stock so thats what would go with its 25.4 inches in diameter and 225/45 should be around 25.

so the 235/40 has a higher profile and more beef

oh wait a sec its 225/45 I have to look it up

215/50 17 has a 25.5 overall diameter
235/40 18 has a 25.4 is its .01 smaller
225/45 has a 25.8 so it has the tallest profile but it loses that sporty look

235/40 fits the 8 inch wheel perfect and its also as close to stock as possible

also depending on what brand determines overall diameter...specs above are stock tire and Michelin Pilot sport 18"

Hes right ant, I did all the research a month or two ago when I was buying my 18s and tires. 225\45\18 wont even fit with a comptech drop I dont think .. 225\40 is off of stock also. 235\40 is .1 off stock like lou said, and will cause your speedo to read 69.9 when your really doing 70. thats close enough for me

I think the ride is perfect, a little more meat over the 225\40, and wider. handling is great. cornering is impressive. obviously it depends on the tire though. I have Pirelli PZero Rossos.

another thing ant if your gonna ride all seasons then try the Pirelli Pzero nero M+S with 400 treadwear and also $140 a pop

only thing with the tire is it doesnt look sporty but gives you more of a compliant ride...how do I know I just had the tires and switched to the Dunlops9000

Thats the exact tire I was just doing readin up on lou...looks like an amazing tire. The 235/40 has more tire on the sidewall than the 225/40 right...meaning not as bouncy and stiff of a ride. Also are these tires quiet cause I'm anal about tire noise...by far the most annoying noise a car can make

Ohh yeah...tirerack says the 235/40/18's will only fit 8"-9.5" rim widths...is this true cause I wanna put them on 18"x7.5" rims. I'm pretty sure u can put 235's on 7.5" rims right???

tough call bro like I said before it fits perfect on a 8 inch wheel. You see if you wanted to do 235/45 17" in a 7.5 wide it will work because it has more sidewall allowing more give....235/40 tread is bigger than 7.5 and smaller sidewall makes it tough to fit in a 7.5. Im not saying it wont fit and that it wont perform it is just not recommended and tirerack might prewarn you.

for 7.5 Tirerack will recommend 225/40 in the 18' which sucks cause 235/40 looks so much better

see this is a 225/40 on a 8.5 inch so on a 7.5 it will fit perfect

You would want to stay away from the 225/40-18 in Nero M&S with a load rating of 88. I'm not too sure Tire Rack would recommend this if they knew what the car was. More importantly, it is very important to go with a reinforced (XL) tire in that size (225/40-18).

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.j...ero+Nero+M%26S

The NON M&S Nero in a 225/40-18 comes in a 92 XL load rating, and is close enough to 93 to be safe.

Aight so I can always look at different brand tires...but a 235/40/18 would work...anyone else other than sgmotoring have this set-up on a 7.5" wide rim. Just wanna make sure cause I really don't want 225/40's.

If you want to be very safe, try using the exact model that a member is already using. Some tires are wider and fit differently even though they have the same 235/40-18 designation.

YMMV
