tire question

Well it's finally time for me to get new tires for my CL. From reading what I get in the search feature I see that the Sumitomo HTR+ and the Continental ContiContact Extremes seem to be the best bang for the buck. Whats the tread life on both these tires and are there any other tires that are around these tires' price and performance you guys could suggest?

As all-season performance goes, yes. I'd add the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S to that list too. Some folks here also like the Dunlop SP5000 (and someone pointed out that the HTR+ is the same tire as the Dunlop, just not directional).

I think my HTR+ are great. No wear issues yet, but I've only had them for about 5K miles.

Even the best all-season tire will never be equivalent to a summer tire. There are performance trade-offs with the tire that can be useful in all weather. Decide what you want/need and then look at individual brands. For now, I'm staying with an all-season set-up. I don't think we have enough snow here to justify a separate winter set-up, but we do have enough foul weather to justify not getting summer-only tires. We'll see if I continue with this line of thought on my next tire purchase -- now that we have an AWD vehicle in the garage, I might give the CL a present with summer only tires (next spring).

well i want to stay with all season tires rather then summer tires. What i really want to know is the feeling the people who already have the continental and sumitomos have about tread life. Do they last for at least 30k miles or do they last even longer.

It seems to me that the first folks to use these tires put them on about a year ago. I don't think anyone will be able to comment about their longevity yet. Hopefully, with 400 and 360 tread wear ratings, they will last as long as your 30K goal.
