TIRE POLL! Whatcha got?
TIRE POLL! Whatcha got?
OK, folks! Several of you have upgraded/swapped the stockers for new rubber and I'm looking for some options. Considering that your tires play the single most important role in handling over any other suspension upgrade, they're probably the most logical place to start when thinking mods. I've got 13 months left on this lease and will not be doing anything major, but after 19K miles, I'm in need of new tires.
My first choice right now are Bridgestone RE730s in 225/45/17. Although lower profile, there's only 6.25mm difference between the sidewall height of these and the stock Michelin MXM4s. Not to mention the fact that they can be had for only $135 each at Tirerack.com. I know JZ has the RE730s, so I'm curious as to his thoughts. If I was keeping the car longer, I might splurge on some Pole Positions or Pilot Sports, but not for the short term.
Let's hear it! What are your thoughts on your recent tire upgrades?

See below. Original handling sucked on blacktop. With the Toyo's, I could get a confession out of most people without making any noises going around corners.
Driving-on-rail city in the dry, wet, and glued on the freeway in 2" of water.
I may buy a set of them to store, if they decide to not make them anymore...

- Mud Guards
- Wheel locks
- Toyo 235/45ZR17-97W* T1S Proxies on 17x8" SSR Competition rims (~48lbs lighter)
- (pre-SSR wheels time) --Gtech 1/8th tank 40F ~=6.1
- Zaino magic
- Sways, headers, CAI comming soon
Looks like EricL and Technique like the Toyo Proxies. I've heard good things about Proxies before.... Now I'll have to check the SSR's out. Have to get a better setup for the summer.

Cheaped out....see sig.
I'll never do that again. They're quiet, absolutely awesome in the rain & snow, good looking......but are no better than OEM CL-P tires in the 9-10-tenths dry. Got all these upgrades and the tires are the weak link.
Next time.....Pirelli P-Zero's.

I would definately buy another set of Potenzas when these wear out. They are inexpensive, awesome in the rain, incredibly sticky on dry pavement, have very stiff sidewalls that dramatically reduce body roll, have an aggressive tread pattern, and have barely worn at all after 10000 miles. What else can you ask for? I would have to be convinced first-hand that spending more money on another tire would get me any real world benefit before I stray from these.
