tire deciosions

i'm gettin new rubber in the spring..

heres my situation...

i have pirelli snows on right now my stockers are in a land fill some where..

i have narrowed my choices down to the toyo t1-s or the toyo proxes 4

if i get the t1-s i'll have to get new tires in the winter cause i cant drive the t1-s in the snow and my snow tires arent driveable for next winter, the t1-s also wear quicker but are stickier than the proxes 4

if i go w/ the proxes 4's i can use them all year around and wont have to shell out 600 for winter tires and they will last longer but not as sticky...

choices choices...

i'm sure even the proxes 4's are way better than the stockers but i'm wondering if i'm gonna need the extra traction from the t1-s...

any one got any opinions...

i'm goin w/ 225/45/17 btw

thanks

I know for a fact the Bridgestone S-03 is a great summer tire. They are too heavy and expensive though. I'm curious to what others have to say about both model Toyo's.

Toyo Proxes 4 are very squeaky tires. Not very good in any road condition.

I’m pretty sure I’m going with the Toyo Proxes 4 myself, but I’m not abandoning my snow tires.
Even though the Toyo’s are M/S rated, I don’t think they will be all that great in deep snow and icy conditions.

Good info here if you missed this thread: http://www.acura-cl.com/forums/showt...highlight=toyo

I disagree...the wife has them on her G20 and they are great tires.

Darrin, the Proxy 4 are good tires but I wouldn't recommend driving in shitty day likes two week ago (I'm talk about likes 4-6inches of snow fallin within couple hours).

The T1's ROCK. Best tire I ever used. I had the the old Toyo FZ4's. Those tires did suck big time. The new 4's are supposed to be better. However I would go with a good all season if I lived where you do. Makes no sense $$ wise to get a good sumer tire that wears fast, & have snow tires. To me at least.

6spdmanual had a set of Toyo FZ4 Proxes 4 in 235/40/18. We thought it squeak through corner like it is loosing traction and spin like crazy in wet condition. He couldn't stand it and replaced them with SO-3. He sold those tires back to the tire shop for $100 credit. Those tires had more than 75% tread left!

You won't regret getting the T1Ss. Just switch to snows when you need to.

That's 100% true. To be honest - WORST then OEM Michelins!!!! I trade them in for my S-03. Yep TRADE-IN for tires, because they are so new and the owner willing to take them for $100.

As a user opinion after 3000 miles: they DO NOT GRIP. No matter dry or wet.

BTW, the T1S stand apart from the 4-season Toyos for 3-season (rain/dry) use and are about as sticky as you can get without going to R-rated rubber.

So, if you find the Toyo all-season stuff is not to your liking, don't extend the comparison to the T1S. The same should be said for other brands and makes of tires. Buy the make, not the brand...

Also, make sure the tire dealer KNOWS you intend to take advantage of the 500-mile offer and make sure he keeps your trade-in tires (long story).

What other tire did you consider? How is the noise/ride compared to stock? How many miles do you have on them so far?

If you go to the track much I would go with the T1s for sure. I get consistent 60' times. I also think that while they do wear quicker than harder compound tires, the wear is not excessive.

Darrin, you really need another rim/tire for the strip. You'd extend the life of your daily's, and get better track times. They'd pay for themselves in one summer. You can pick up some cheap 16's somewhere.
