Tips On launching a 6 spd.

Hi...
i jus sold my 99 accord v6 and got a cls 6 spd.
The limited slip on this car is great but since i dont have much experience with the 6 speeds, launching the car is a bit tough. Wats the best way to launch these things?

Thanks,.

get new tires(toyo T1-S 235/45) and take her to 4K and drop it...you may even concider nitto 555R's they come 245/45 and will fit the stock wheel ...
warning concider a whiplash brace for the above mentioned

I suggest you also work a bit on a boxing speed bag. You'll need to as those 1>2, and 2>3 shifts come up fast.

You'll get used to the clutch in time but you need to work on stickier tires.

I totally agree on the tire upgrade !!! Get Toyos or something sticky and that will definitely improve the launch. Good luck and welcome

Yes, a proper launch is a tough thing to do.
I’m getting better, but still haven’t mastered it EVERY time.
You need just the right amount of wheelspin, but not too much.
Once the tires grab a bit, I dump the gas and fully release the clutch.
My Falken Azenis tires are quite sticky and if I give it too much clutch early they tend to “hop” instead of spin.
A good HARD launch is fun to do, but not very good for the clutch. You won’t kill the Tranny, but you will take a few hundred miles off the life of the clutch.

I'm having a bitch of a time launching my car quickly, but then again this is my first manual car and I barely have over 150 miles on the car so far. I'm not trying to spin tires or anything but say I need to make a left hand turn into the middle "Suicide Lane" and traffic is coming quick.

I want to be able to get moving quickly without worrying about stalling the car. Right now when I want to get moving I just give the car a little gas and ease up on the clutch until it starts to catch and then apply more gas after I let the clutch completely engage. Problem is this normally takes 2-3 seconds.

Whenever I try releasing the clutch quickly to launch fast the car seems to lurch or almost buck in first gear. Could some of this be a result of the traction control cutting power to keeps the tires from misbehaving?

I'm not too worried about the clutch since its actually covered under the warranty. (Although I don't want have to get it replaced within the first 5,000 miles)

So far I've only burnt the clutch once practicing a launch on a steep incline.

on the contrary, i have the nitto 555 in 235/40/18's and i drop it from 1500 and i still spin like a motherfucker. Maybe its the mods but i also warm the tires up, i spin em a couple of times and swerve a little bit and i still can't get a launch without any spin so i dunno.

Bucking in first gear sounds to me like not enough gas. Take her up a little higher before releasing the clutch. Just go to a parking lot and play around.

Why would you want to launch on an incline, you would prob. end up spinning?

If you want to launch hard in the Bimmer, just turn off the DSC, take it up to about 2500 - 3000 revs, let out on the clutch quickly but start slipping it a little when it starts engaging and then go WOT and completely release the clutch.

This will cause the back to slightly kick out but just hang on. Not only does it get you off the line quickly but it also is fun getting the back end out a little...

you know steve ive been think of a high stall convertor...reason, if im setting waiting for traffic to clear and i punch it...i get a boat load of wheel spin, but when the car finally grabs, it feels like i get launched out of a sling shot.. what do you think?

Thanks for the tips! I'll have to go back to the parking lot and experiment some more.

I was coming up to a traffic light in 2nd gear when the light started to turn yellow, and while I was turning right, I hit the gas a lil bit and heard the tires scream for a second and saw the DSC light blinking at me. I must say, it did put a smile on face.

i thought this was a tough car to launch when i posted a week ago
i see that it s a common prob
i guess its like anything, you just need some time and practice
i did not expect any difficulty as i have been driving a clutch for over 30 years

IMO, I find it easy to launch this CL-S as power delivery is very consistant. As opposed to some other FWD vehicles, like a 300+ HP FWD Turbo DSM. Not enough throttle and you bog, too much and you are just sittin' and spinnin'...

With the linear power delivery of the CL-S you can really feel the needed throttle and the slip. Additionally, with this low of an engagement point it is very easy to get this thing moving.

Slip the clutch at 3K.....you have a lot of torque...once you feel the tires start squealing a little and start to grab...let it go full throttle...

Thanks for the replies ...

DOOM. yea i was a member of the accord forum. (I miss my car)
But this car is faster and more fun to drive..I have alrdy wuped 2 Gts...
I really wanna upgrade to better wheels and tires cuz our 215s dont have much rubber to really use this cars potential.

O yea...my first race in this car.....I lost...to a 2002 m3. Those bitches are Fast!!
Now my second Question...

If anyone has ever herd a 2002 M3 at full throttle..It sounds amazing...Like a F1 car.. Wat kinda setup we need to make ours sound like that?? Exhaust/intake....?? Pls reply only if u know wat i am talkin bout..

Thanks..
And yea....i love this car.

Purlehaze.

I would assume equal length headers.
